Because they have high end product and low end product and those who cannot afford the higher end product buy the low end product based on the sony name, find out it sucks, and then claim sony sucks. I hate sony because their high end product sucks too, just in different ways.

Because they've spread themselves too thin. Their products are all mediocre and boring at best because of this.

WTF is an iiyama?

It's a Japanese company that makes CRT computer monitors. Once again, someone doesn't realize we are talking about CRT TELEVISIONS, not PC monitors.

My two-cents. I've never owned an "expensive" CRT television made by anyone but Sony. I currently have a five year old 32" Sony Trinitron. Flat top to bottom, but not left right. It calibrates almost perfectly; I've no complaints. I have more than gotten my money out of it and it's still running strong. I've also owned countless Sony Walkmans over the years. I still have my 2.1mp Sony Cybershot digicam...it's perfect!

The ONLY reason why I'm probably going to upgrade the TV is that the TV doesn't have component inputs...only S Video. That, and I want a bigger picture.

I haven't made up my mind yet if I'm going to go w/a 36" CRT or a RPTV. I have read that Hitachi and Mitsubishi make the best RPTVs. But if I go the CRT route, I'll be looking at Sony, Toshiba and maybe Proscan.

I don't know how so many people have gotten bum Sony products....to much B Stock purchases maybe? Refurbs? I dunno. *shrug* I bought mine new, from an authorized dealer and after calibration, it's been perfect.

I would buy another Sony in a heartbeat.

I used to be a Sony Loyalist, but I've been disappointed in some of their stuff lately.

That said, all my CRT monitors are Sony, and all my CRT TVs are Sony as well.

Their non-ES stereo equipment disappointed me. Their phones did too. And I have not been impressed with their LCD or CRT rear projection TVs.

same. over the years..

sony digi cam
camcorder
couple wegas
some older tvs
5 optical drives
as previously stated, sony CRTs are SOLID
some dvd players
vcrs

only had 1 problem, which was with 1 of my sony dvd players, other than that, perfect performance out of everything. Have heard about alot of problems, guess im lucky.

Ditto.

I like my Sony stuff, but will go for the best of what I am getting usually. Monitors I like my Iiyama crt. LCD I went with Sony 23" widescreen. Mac one is out of the question as it is a mac and more hassle to adjust stufff on it. Also 4 imputs on my monitor

3 Sony MD's to replace the other one as I liked the newer one better. Not to replace as it was bust on me.

SonyEriccson phone.

Various Sony Walkmans.

Sony ps2, currently dead but my bro plays it A LOT. So has put in loads of hrs in to it.

Varous Sony tvs and a nice 32" Wega that is a few years old. Amazing picture.

Sony laptop.

Sony DVcam PC120. Was rated highly.

Sony 17 E200 monitor. Great picture, prefer it to my 19" Iiyama in fact, more contrast and is brighter but the spec is lower and doesn't run 1280x1024 higher then 75Hz but fine at that refresh rate.

I don't mind paying more for Sony stuff if I want it and it is good. If another brand is better for my money I will EASILY go with that brand. If it is good I will go with whatever brand is best for my £££.

ps I do admit Sony make some crap products but what company doesn't?

Sony make quality products. Are they the absolute best in everything? Some things, yes, but others, of course not, but even with the things that they're not the best of, they're still quality products. Do they make the best TVs? Arguably, but there are certainly competing products. Best notebooks? Some say so, but if not, they certainly compete well with all the others out there. Not everybody has the time and means to research every single product they buy to buy the absolute best... and unless in those very rare instances, buying Sony you're going to end up with one of the best anyways.

I hold high regard for Sony mainly because I've bought lots of Sony displays and other items. Not a problem with one.

Perhaps a little higher priced, but if the stuff works I can't complain.

I don't think Sony's great, because they have such a wide variety of products, it's hard to judge the entire company. To narrow it down:

Their designs are incredible. You cannot argue that their products just look cooler than most of their competitors'.

Other than that, I love my Sony Ericsson phone. I like my Sony laptop, but I wouldn't recommend their laptops to just anyone. My Sony digicam is great, but aging.
I've had 2 sony Trinitron TV's with no problems. I've had and worked on countless computers with Sony CRTs that were great. They are the kings of camcorders, my father's 8mm Handycam (the first 8mm consumer camera released) still works like a charm.

On the other hand, I wouldn't consider ever buying a Sony Plasma or LCD because of the high price and average performance. I wouldn't buy any of their receivers, unless I could afford an ES Series, but there are other brands I'd prefer in that range. I also wouldn't purchase their speakers.

The only problem ive had with sony is my camcorder. Also, I've basically beaten my remote to a pulp, but it still works fine (just had to tape it together - there also is a rattling sound)

me and my family buy sony products (cameras, dvd players, tv's, walkman's) and have been happy thus far. i guess to each his own.

let me ask those who are on the fence though, if you were able to get a lot of sony products at wholesale price, would you re-consider the company? i ask this because a lot of people seem more turned off by their prices than the quality of their products.
