i'm just curious because i've seen them badmouthed so many times on this board. i've had an IT5H, two 300a-era BH6s (for two different systems), and now a KT7, and i've had zero problems with any of it... have i just been lucky or what?

I bought Abit a while back and have no problems with it.. but I think they been trying to rush product out the door. I just got a few asus cusl2 and they're awesome. I think abit need to have better quality control and more features.

I still love my bx6R2, it's stable board and still is. People don't like abit because either they made a mistake and gotten cheap parts and kill the board or they just don't know what they're doing.. it happens.. can't blame people

I don't have a problem with Abit - they have served me well in the past, and I'm sure they will in the future. I've heard horror stories about their RMA department, but as long as you buy through a company that takes that into their own hands, you're set!

i don't hate abit, but I agree with officeboy. the boards that work, work great; unfotunately there seems to be alot of DOAs with abit boards. Abit is an excellent manufacturer overall. One of the best IMO.

I have an Abit BE6 which I don't use cos I don't believe in the Celeron. But the board had plenty longevity and features. OVerclocks my PII-233 to 350 easy.

I have a BH6 and NEVER had a problem with in so when it was time for me to upgrade and get a faster processor I said "well, since the BH6 served me so well, let me get the BF6" That board sucked so bad I gave it to my wife! I then went on the forums and it seems like everyone had some problem with that board and other new abit boards so I went out and got an ASUS p3v4x and never looked back at a-bit again. Now, I may have had just the one bad expeirience but I dont like taking chances so I shun abit. I dont bad mouth them but I dont use em anymore.

I love Abit. They were the original overclocking-friendly mobo company. My first mobo -> BH6, with C300a (@464).

I think it`s their RMA (Sucks big time)also their Technical support is not that good, btw my ex-Abit board served me well for 2 years,so if they can really improve both their RMA & tech support they good be one of the best allround.

my friend and i ordered our abit be6-2's together and we both received defective boards, but then we both bought some new ones and loved them, but i still haven't gotten my ata66 to work for some reason.

I personally consider them the second best. I would only think about recommending them to the hobbiest though, they are so customizable and seem to require more tweaking to run properly than most other mobos. Their DOA rate and support suck hairy donkey though. I don't know of a mobo manufacturer that has good support though. Does one exist?

- Bad RMA policy
- And a High RMA rate (my friend who used to run a small local retailer tells me he gets way more RMAs on ABit than on anything else)
- Horrid Tech Support people
- And personnally I had a horribly experience with the BE6, I had to deal with their tech support staff (which still gives me nightmares), and then I had to RMA the board, and the one I got back, I got it working, but no ATA66...had to disable it or it caused problems.

Having said all that...ABit makes GREAT mobos...among the best...as long as they work...they just have an unfortunately high rate of not working...
My friend has a KA7 and it's pretty sweet, he's had no problems with it. But I stick to companies I've had good experience with, and so far Asus has yet to let me down for a mobo, so I stick with them.

I'm having my first personal experience with an Abit mobo right now and I'm impressed. It's a great board.

I got a BE6 but had to RMA it for the voltage bug (couldn't bump voltage). They took a while but it did get fixed (or I got someone elses board because I got a free ata66 cable and a floppy cable too). The RMA was rather lengthy and I brought a ZM6 locally just so I could have a computer.

Abit also sent me a BIOS for $24 2 day or something and that was done quickly. I haven't used their tech support. My RMA was handled through sunshinestar.com but - it went smooth.

I like the boards but my next one will probably be an Asus, Microstar, Soyo, or SuperMicro.

I've had BH6 a while back, and on the 2nd month all the power connectors on it simply burned out. I got another one from the dealer (thankfully he was pretty good about RMAing), and guess what happened to it? Exactly same thing in exactly two monthes. No more Abit for me I though, and I excahned it for Asus P2B-F. Works as a champ from an year ago up to today. Never ever another Abit board will see inside of my computer.

oh, another thing. Abit is probably the pickiest motherboard about memory. Gotta be extremely high quality RAM in order to run stable (Mushkin or Crucial), while generic PC66 works fine @ 110MHz on Asus P2B-F

My Abit Bx6 rev.2 has served me well for two cpus, a celeron 300a @450 mhz and now a celeron 566 at 850mhz.

Guess a lot of people have had problems with them, I've only had 1 so far and it was fine. No problems other than the ones I caused myself. Always a good idea to read and UNDERSTAND the manual before you go changing stuff in the bios.

Abits aren't that bad, but I seriously dont think that they're needed, because there are always better offers out there than Abits, namely Asus, MicroStar, and Soyo. Along with the bad RMA policy and RMA%, just the more reasons we dont need Abit.
