Because as far as I can tell, USPS Priority mail is by far the best deal going for sending packages.

I can understand these big businesses making deals with FedEx and UPS -- but it seems like even the small fry are using them now. Why do you guys prefer these guys to the Post Office?

If nothing else, Saturday delivery makes it worth the while IMAO.

Two answers:
1) UPS and FedEx have better commercials.
2) USPS is run by the government, and government is bad. Imagine if W got credit for improving the postal service. OMGWTFREDSTATESWINAGAIN

Priority is expensive for large/heavy packages..Fedex Ground is cheap. For stuff under 1lb, Priority is awesome.

Yeap. Do some price quotes for a 15 pound package and see who charges the most. For little stuff USPS has it down, everythings they're ungodly overpriced.

i agree, USPS for under 1lb is great but anything higher i'm going with UPS or Fedex. I shipped a laptop with insurance for 11 dollars, USPS wanted like 21 dollars.

It really depends on the Zone. If I'm shipping within the state or the next state over Priority Mail, it almost always pays to go USPS up to around 13-15 lbs or so. Especially if you figure in residential delivery fees.

I did for a year and a half before they started overcharging me for sh!t out of nowhere and they took their sweet time fixing the problems with my account. Now I use UPS and USPS.

I have found USPS and UPS to be unrealiable, at least in my area. I only send stuff out FedEX and try to get packages shipped to me via FedEX. Plus there is a FedEX place 5 minutes away and its open late versus the 45 minute drive for UPS and the post office closing early.

I sent a 26lb box several states away for $17 - insured for $962 via Fedex Ground. I didn't even bother checking USPS..should I have?

I love USPS. Guy shipped my drebel on Thursday from CT, I had it on Saturday in VA. With UPS that would've been a Tuesday-Wednesday delivery. Sure tracking was non-existant, but I don't care when it only takes 2 days! Every other trade I've done, USPS has always been a superior shipping method compared to UPS.

Well I find that for AIR MAIL, USPS always wins hands down. The other guys compete with ground mail, but who the hell wants to wait 7-10 days for a package to arrive? Happy customers are customers that get their stuff really fast. Yeah a tracking number is nice but having your package in 2-3 days (w/ Saturday delivery) is much better imho.

But for heavy items I do find ground shipping with the other guys to be nice if you want the "real time tracking"

I would NEVER ship anything uber expensive via USPS. But for crap under $150 or so, I don't mind.

As for 26 lbs, I don't think Priority mail would be the way to go in any case. Bottom line is, you just have to have a general idea of the zip code structure and price points for the various carriers. For me, it's UPS and USPS. I know that if I'm shipping a 1-5 pound package that it's probably going to go USPS Priority Mail regardless of what state it's going to. If it's 5-over and going to the midwest or California, it's going UPS. If it's 5 pounds and over going to the east coast I do a rate check for both UPS and USPS to see who's cheaper.

Plus USPS gives you FREE BOXES. And free tape. And they are nice boxes. All the other guys charge like $5 for a box.

It's really nice to have your product arrive in a nice, new clean USPS box rather than an old beat up one like it seems like things are always arriving in.

Whether you realize it or not customers really judge what is inside a package by the outside. If it arrived in an old beat up box that has seen a week of ground shipping it's just not as nice as a new clean airmail box
