Aside from your atrocious butchering of the English language, to the point it's difficult even trying to decipher what you're trying to argue, the number one thing that keeps anyone from taking you or your opinions seriously is your penchant for flat out lying and making things up.

Final Fantasy VII (that's 7, by the way) outsold Final Fantasy VIII globally by nearly 2 million units in total, and in each and every market. This is easily verifiable, Google search information.

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/758/final-fantasy-viii/
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/756/final-fantasy-vii/
http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy

A silly debate anyway which proves nothing, but even more asinine is mentioning the speed the game sold at release? I mean, really? Is your defense of a 15 year old game really that tenuous?
And your argument (I think?) that VII only sold as well as it did because of other tie-ins and spin-offs is laughably absurd to. Why do you think it had so many spin-offs associated with it? Answer: Because it was exceedingly popular to begin with.

If anything, 8's success is really attributed to 7's. Look at movies, even sleeper hits (which 7 was, JRPGs were not extremely popular before that) that get sequels generally do very well (even if they are bad). Spiderman is a great example. The first was a surprise hit and the second did amazing, even though it was a far weaker movie. The third, however, was so bad, it even hurt the reboot!

Spider-Man 2 is usually considered to be the best of the original trilogy, and one of the better comic book movies.

Aside from your blah blah blah, shat ap. The only liar and misinformed person here is you, you bias bitch, try linking to sites thats credible, not a another bias site that you can twist the truth from:

Final Fantasy 8 - 8.15 million copies sold as of MARCH 2003
http://www.google.com/search?q=Fina...pies+sold&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&source=hp&gbv=1

OHHHHHHHH lol Trying to subtract ins and outs to make it appear more distant...get the fuck out of here, if I didnt know any better, I'd say you written that blog yourself you bias bitch The extensions, tie ins, movies, spin offs, anime, manga are all what increases its ratings and sale, I've read hundreds of forums where the newer generation played the original game just because they watched the movie first. In 2003 ff8 already had 8 million + sold, only recently 7 has went to nearly 10 million, all due to its...gimmicks,. Popular? lol 7 Is known all over the web and world as the most overated FF game because of all the gimmiks aka milking, its like comparing Nintendo vs Sony games and sony using 3rd party games over nintendos exclusives, sony gets stomped in exclusives. Tenuous?

Its just called facts crybaby.

I meant 2 > 3. Sorry. I wasn't a fan of any of them, personally. I really disliked the casting. Spiderman 2 only opened at $88 million, while Spiderman 3, even though it was terrible, did nearly double that @ $151 million.

I agree with you but it is unplayable for me because sometimes I want to walk back and forth for awhile and level up my characters and the game punishes me for it.

I'm not sure you understand how levelling works in FFT.

You gain experience and job points for every successful action, not at the end of the battle.

If the random encounters didn't scale with your level, you'd be unable to grind as the battles would be over almost before they started, and you'd have no chance for your characters to get actions in.

Exactly, if you play your cards right, before even getting to Gustav and Weigrifs battle, you could just fight any random encounter, corner the last foe (un-equip the weapons) and wage war against your men healing them when they get to low and then beef it out some more to gain EXP/JP...

With only a little grinding I already had...

Time mages: Teleport
Ninjas: Duel swords
Lancers: Ignore height
Monks: Hamedo

With that combo alone on your whole team, its basically nighty night for any enimie, yet I found myself with atleast one thief that learned the archer concentrate support, and I stole even bosses best equipments in the game like the full genji armour.

Ramzas arsenal trumps any FF games, as he basically has every legendary weapon you can think of, Sephiroth and clouds swords is actually one of the weakist rare find weapons in the game, the masamune is trumped by the Chirijiraden and basically any regular sword like the blood sword is far better useful, its no where near the mystical propertys of Save the queen, Excalibur, Ragnorok, Chaos blade, if you have sets of those swords your whole team can be equiped with haste, protect, regen, stone effect, and holy effect.

Now now, I'd watch the insults and personal attacks before you see yourself banned....again. This isn't OT and nobody is debating lions and tigers (lol).
And that Wiki link is precisely what I linked to. Your ranting and raving over a biased source is laughable.

Your experiences and inferences are meaningless at worst and anecdotal at best, and the numbers you're trying to spin are clearly and empirically against you. Get over it.
That this is such a passionate crusade for you is infantile, but I'm not exactly surprised in the least.

Please tone it down a bit... -Admin DrPizza

You were the one who started off the insults asshole. You didnt link in anything true, your source said, to date Vlll sold 7 million, completely false, FF eight sold 8 million more than 10 years ago:
http://books.google.com/books?id=Lm...a=X&ei=PFfpU9f9B8OBygTUxYCYDA&ved=0CAwQ6AEwAw

A far more accomplished Game than FF7:
http://books.google.com/books?id=Lm...million+copies+sold&ie=ISO-8859-1&output=html

They compared the game, and the game alone, not the fame it gets routed from more gimmicks than any other FF. Again, the only person is a liar is you, maybe you shouldnt insult others if you cant hand the heat. Funny how its the worst FF game in the world to you, yet its nominated by the entire world as one of the best....how ironic.

It doesn't matter who started the insults. You have several posts now that contain insults right back. And, like at a hockey game, it doesn't matter who threw the first blow, everyone fighting goes to the penalty box. See PM. -Admin DrPizza

Any list of "The Best Final Fantasy Games" won't have 8 in the top 5.

I think its funny that you rag on 7 like its the high water mark. Its not. 7 was obviously rushed with huge flaws. It is an entertaining game and the first major RPG with an unreliable narrator, but it is at best my fifth favorite Final Fantasy.

Have you beaten Final Final Tactics and Final Fantasy 6 (3 in US)?

Sorry for the rants, I'm not saying its a bad game its obviously better than 11, 12, 13, probably 1, and 3 too, but the fact is most of its high ratings come from its gimmicks, give 8 a movie, give 8 a manga, give 8 multiple spin offs and its prequel game...in fact give all the FFs and they will almost double in ratings and sales due to a more interactive base, the creator of 7 was just the more smart one to extend the franchise. I liked 7, think clouds one of the best characters even though all have some minor flaw to them.

I've beat FT like 20 times, an beat 6, but only played 6 once, its story is still memorable more than 7.

I think it's hilarious you linked to a page in an article listing an amalgamation of reviews, most of them critical to mixed. The only publication that said VIII was "superior" to VII was Edge Magazine, whose authority on the matter is certainly no greater than anyone else's. That you latch onto it is quite telling about how unsupported your position is, or else you'd be able to find more and better sources to back your claims. You can't, because they largely don't exist.

Just to show how meaningless that tack is, I present you with four major media publications that disagree:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2009/12/29/ranking-the-final-fantasy-series
http://kotaku.com/5979711/lets-rank-the-final-fantasy-games-best-to-worst
http://www.gamesradar.com/the-top-7-best-final-fantasy-games/
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/top-5-friday/6963-Top-5-Final-Fantasy-Games

Regardless, you need to realize that people can and will have differing opinions on thoroughly subjective criteria like RPGs. That you can't seem to reconcile this fact is your own problem that you need to work on. You defend FF8, that's fine, you're free to like it. But if you're going to appeal to popularity and the bandwagon to validate your opinion, you might first make sure your opinion isn't actually in the minority, otherwise you look like quite the fool.

I despise FFIX, for a number of reasons. But I understand a great many folks enjoyed it and rank it highly, so I'm not going to bother embarking on a quest to find a handful of others who share my opinion to convince myself I'm "right".

Take a breath and move on.

I'm on no quest, just gave my two bits, you can never refute my facts since its basically the overall truth, gimmicks...funny you linked ign, as different years they had different members ranked it differently...did you even bother to look at my first link? It had IGN too stating how 8 > 7 at a point an time....I am well aware of everyone has there own opinions and I already stated the final verdict is 7 > 8 in terms popular polls, atleast my one source was a book called final fantasy with over 300 pages worth dedicated by an entire group who actually researched the statistics, not made up there own numbers like your source, what did yours contain? Just those front pages, nothing else, not to mention yours had false info about the sales, and LMFAO just read the full thing on kotaku, is this a reptative gaming magazine? No, its just some mook giving a way off opinion, find out what credible means.

Did I rank 8 as the best? No I said, FT was my top pick 2 an 6 have basically better stories and line up charaters than 8, I just like 8 overall, you are the one wanking 7 and down playing 8 as the dead last...thats just beyound what my main argument was, and obviously your opinion of 8 is dead last is by far the minority, you're saying 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13, just smoked 8? I mean even 1 and 3? Huh Give me a break.

Fine, then move on.

Hm ok maybe I owe it to myself to give it another chance... I was going off my memory from playing it in '98 so it's definitely been awhile...

I guess I can buy it now since it's on sale for $5, if I want to play on my Vita should I get the 'War of the Lions' version?

Thats a big memorie loss if you couldnt remember that.

I remeber finding 5 Excaliburs in the dungeon, team was able to blitz people since it had auto haste, gotta say its a tie with Beowulf and Thunder God Cid, TGC is a tank, he can break any equipment with his Mighty sword infused job class as its 100%, has holy knight and dark knight if hes losing HP, one hit and basically hes fully restored, once you get TGC its a walk in the park, but I think Beowulf is his equal to an extant, his temple knight has more vesritile, dont act, sleep, break all could putdown the other person in one shot, and it had a high % of working. If you have shock, an low life, you can basically one shot anyone in the game excluding bosses, maybe 3 uses and a boss is out.

The game is also about tactics, so you could mix an match your team, I mean you could beat a team of hard hitters like Agrias wih a team of chemist all equiped with elemental guns, just keeping your distance/running while fireing with long range, it depends what appeals to you.

Ramza is by far the most powerful if you can get in a max stats by scream/roar in battle...but if you get killed with 999 speed, you basically turn into a crystal in one second, (thats only because I killed my own character to find out lol,) other than that, Ramza at full stats would have like 10 turns before anyone even flinches, one hit Ko's, with thunder 4 you could kill the entire other team with one hit.

The newer one has more job classes, so its up to you.

Cloud wasnt all that useful in FFT, it just shows how weak he is against hard hitters, his cutscenes on AC pumped him up, but once on dissidia, everyone could beeseen moving at those speeds. Would like to see a 5 vs 5 match up with FFT vs any FF game, top pick would be.

Ramza, his 2 brothers with Beowulf and the Thunder God Cid vs something like, Cloud, Zack, Sephiroth, Vincent and that dude in the underworld who it took zack like a 100 mega lixers to beat. I'd still pull for team one.

Ramzas Roar/scream would probably be like Gokus kaioken, plus a ragnorok an chaos blade would trump clouds buster sword, and Ramzas vast knowledge of basically mastering Archer, Calculator, Black Mage, Chemist, Lancer, Geomancer, Knight, Oracle, Monk, Ninja, Samurai, Thief, Time Mage
would trump cloud super soilder status by a mile.

are kids just that dumb these days?

Didn't play the games, just watched Spoony.

I don't know what anyone else said, and perhaps this has been said, but you do know that FF8 came out like 15 years ago?

I don't get how you're judging today's standards by such an old game? I'm playing Tales of Syphonia Chronicles which is a mid 2000 game and by today's standards holy baby jebus is that game TERRIBLE.

There is so much input lag, the graphics aren't even THAT impressive for a PS2 game, and the voice acting in both languages is just absolute garbage. But this is comparing it to a modern day game like FFXIII (and yes, before "but that game sucks" comments).

However, I'm finding the game to be fun, and it throws me back to that era of RPGs were shit was just easier/simpler.

Anyways, rant aside, FF8 was a damn good game in regards to story. Combat was plain vanilla. Draw system really broke the game (if you have a reasonable IQ), and the "Payroll" system basically made you have infinite money if you took the time to read the extra stuff littered every where. Triple Triad is still an awesome mini-game

EDIT: And after re-reading the thread title again, not sure if it was clarified in the thread but I'm feeling I misunderstood your point and you are more so stating games after FF8 sucked? I dunno anymore. Haha.

Also, factor in Ramza's squire class is unique where he can wear Knight Armor and wield Swords. Squire Class + Dual Wield and some whatever Secondary Job you want and Mofo is unstoppable.

I remember one of my play throughs just cheesing the system with the frog trick. Watched TV while I earned JP out the ass.
