I downloaded about 84TB of "info" on pirate day.
hmm, 84TB huh?
You must have one massive storage server rack. Not to mention an insanely capable internet line, like commercial fiber maybe?
I thought exactly the same thing as it works out at 1GB/s for 24hours. You can get a 1+GB/s internet connection, so I give him/her the benefit of doubt.
As you mentioned, you would also need a sh*t load of storage capacity.
How common is a 1GBps internet connection?
Not to doubt your understanding, but I do know a lot of people confuse internet connection numbers. For instance, Verizon has a 100mbps fiber connection (FIOS). Note the lower case. I see you had uppercase, so I expect you understand, or didn't understand the connection.
For instance, a 100MBps connection would actually be 800mbps (megabits vs megabytes).
The internet connection would need to be 8gbps, or 8000mbps. Or 80 times faster than a 100mbps internet connection.
(if you understood this and used that correctly, I meant nothing by a wrongful assumption. It was for those who don't understand. Even in my CCNA program, I had people who got this confused. (never got the CCNA. before I was finished I decided not to try to get certified and dropped it as a career prospect. Looking back into that side of business, especially if I can get a Signal branch career in the Army.)
edit:
looking for rated line use, that kind of network capacity would be OC-192, which is capable of over 9000mbit/s (!!!! :laugh
This type of line, and the lesser fiber links (OC-96, OC-48), are backbone links. Commercial links used as the backbone for ISPs, or as links to large server farms, for hosting companies and the like).
Not going to see that going to somebody's house. That kind of link is going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars per month I imagine, cannot find the actual prices without doing business estimates. It appears OC-3 lines are costing around 20k/month, and those are only rated 155mbps. Yes, you can get a private personal line from Verizon around 100mbps for what, around $100, $150/month? But that is shared and all kinds of issues when it comes to business use, aka no reselling that bandwidth. Having bandwidth you can use any way you choose is a whole different ballgame.
