I suggest this:

1. Download DriverCleaner pro
2. Download the latest Chipset drivers and VC drivers. Get the Chipset drivers from nVidia's site vice MSI.
3. Uninstall ALL nVidia drivers (MB and VC)
4. Restart and boot into Safe Mode (press F8 when booting)
5. Run Driver Cleaner and select all nVidia drivers
6. Reboot and install the new chipset drivers and then the new VC drivers
7. Reboot and test out FarCry.

Sounds good to me.
Why restart in Safe Mode?

And would this platform/video card driver issue be the cause of my random lock ups outside the game or is that another problem? i.e. RAM?

Running in safe mode keeps the NVIDIA drivers from being utlilized by Windows. First I would reinstall drivers and then if the problem continued I would run memtest. I would then take the side cover off the case and see if the problem persists. Sometimes a heating issue can occur without knowing it. Next, I would make sure all my BIOS settings and voltages are normal.

As Michael said, just do this first as this is always a good idea when installing new drivers. It may not fix the problem, but should be done anyways.

If the problem is still there, then I would definitley check the RAM with Memtest (preferably overnight).

Just download it and install it. You'll get mix answers of uninstalling first then installing or just install it directly. Nonetheless, chooser either way and get the newest drivers. It should solve your problem.

Thanks guys. This noob really appreciates your help.

If I find that I have a RAM problem what recourse do I have other than getting new RAM?

Your RAM has a lifetime warranty, so just RMA it back to Crucial for replacement.

UPDATE

Ok I did the nForce platform driver, I did the nVidia driver, I downloaded the patch file for Far Cry......CRASH.

I don't get it. I hadn't even moved the character yet.

Then Windows doesn't restart correctly and I have to reboot again in Safe Mode.

I am really getting frustrated!!! Is my video card that bad that I can't even run this game on the lowest settings??

HELP!! I dont know what to do.

forget the nforce, nvidia and whatever drivers - FOR NOW.

First you have to test your system on the deep down basic level, eg. with memtest (which is ok)...or with even better test programs like prime95 or OCCT.

Best thing for you now is get memtest on a CD and boot on the CD and dont even bother about windows/drivers etc. for NOW.

After hours (best would be over night) passes of memtest ou can be quite sure your memory and cpu is ok...THEN worry about drivers.

ALso...eliminate ALL programs you have running at startup etc...could be a lot...but as said start deep down with the memory/cpu.

also...check forums for the msi, ask around here etc...you dont overclock...hmmmm....but maybe some bios setting is weird. Did you try updating your motherboard bios ?

Everything I need to boot up the computer with Memtest86 requires me to use a floppy disk but I don't even have a floppy drive. There is a thing in the menu that says it lets you make a bootable cdrom but I have no idea how to do that. Why are there no instructions on this website?

Check ALL wire connections in your pc, highly unlikely, but you never know, something might be losing power or connection.
Try using each stick of RAM by itself(if you have more than 1).
Download cpu-z and check the cpu and ram, making sure the FSB is correct for both. Check all BIOS settings to make sure they are correct, try video card without fast write.
Download the latest drivers(video card mainly) and go into safe mode, uninstall drivers, install latest ones.
Make sure Windows is fully updated with service pack 2(I like it, others dont).

If none of those work, destroy your computer and get a girlfriend.

did u run memtest 86+, prime95 to check if your system is stable in the first place?
or maybe just run 3dmark to see if it crashes?

i think it would if u say the game only last 1 minute

RAM, System Stability , Heat issue could be a possibility

what are your Temps on load?

I couldn't figure out how to run memtest86. I don't have a floppy drive so I can make a floppy boot. I tried doing one for CD but that didn't work.

Its your RAM. Random Lock ups are almost always caused by problems with the RAM.

I can't believe so many people suggested doing alot of other trouble shooting when you posted really early on you were crashing even in windows. (Not heat, not graphics card...)

this is my setup

3000+ venice
epox 9npa+ ultra
2x512mb mushkin basic
fortron dual rail PSU 350w
X800

running w2k, sp4, catalyst 5.8's, nf4 6.66, no other games crash, no overclocking vid card, cpu o'c to 2.2. far cry patched to 1.3... oh yea prime stable(blend) for like 5 hours and i got bad crashes after like a minute(sometimes even seconds) after the map loads up.

i uninstalled the game cuz it was pissing me off. none of my other games crash: doom3, hl2, fear demo, bf2, dungeon siege 2. and the thing is i played it for a while, and it started crashing. and then it worked for like 2 hours. and then i saw texture problems so i patched to 1.3, and then it crashes like a mother.

bah. fun game too. i'll probably try again later. colin mcrae 04 was crashing like crazy too, but i tried it again and i played for like 2 hours fine crash free. wtf...

I'm surprised it would be the ram because I had the board assembled and tested when I ordered it. RAM, CPU, and Mobo all came as one part. But I will try running the computer with 1 of the RAM sticks taken out.

What about an issue with the actual video card? Maybe overheating or perhaps a bad card all together. Could that be a cause of my problems?

Have you tried the RAM yet?

If not that, maybe a bad windows, need to reformat?

Tough to troubleshoot over the internet.

I am going out of my mind!!!!!!!

I bought a floppy drive today because all of the RAM testing software requires me to use a floppy boot disk. So I in stall the floppy and move my hard drive down a space so it isn't right on top of the floppy.

Now it won't even boot to Windows. It just sits on the screen that says if I want to go to the BIOS then press Delete. I press Delete and nothing happens. I have to hold the power button down to get it to shut off.

It will not budge. So I unplug everything pull out the harddrive, check it over. I didn't knick the circuits or anything. So I plug it back in and unplug the power from the floppy. This time I just plug the monitor in because it probably won't work anyway. Turn it on....goes to the press delete for BIOS screen and then to the following screen that shows everything that is plugged into the motherboard. I have to hit F1 to get it to boot the O/S but my keyboard isnt plugged in. I turn off the computer. Plug in the keyboard and then plug the power back into the floppy.

Turn it on, nothing works again.

What is going on?????

if you couldn't even get a game to run I wouldn't have moved any hardware or touched it, you should Install MOBO Drivers, Service pack 2 Latest Direct X your Latest video card drivers and the game shouldn't crash.

have you tried the event viewer?

I've done all that already. And you are right. It shouldn't crash...buuuuuuut it does. Why?? Thats what I am trying to figure out.

I figured out the problem though. For some reason the computer wouldn't boot with the mouse plugged into the USB slot. I don't get it but as soon as I put a mouse connection adapter on it, it worked fine.

UPDATE:

I ran Prime95 for about 8 hours today and I came up with no errors.
I ran a Torture Test and then gave it "Work" from GIMP for over an hour. No problems. I haven't had any issues with it as far as Windows operations goes.

I haven't tested the game yet because I want to make sure things are somewhat stable first.

Anything else I can test?
