Why does my monitor refuse to display in digital?

I have a samsung syncmaster 730P, and a eVGA GeForce 7800 GS....the syncmaster comes with a drivers disc that will install drivers for either analog or digital. I select digital, install the drivers....and then when I try to turn the display on in Digital, it doesn't work! What gives?

Well, are you connecting your monitor to the gfx card with a VGA or DVI cable?

I would first not bother installing the LCD drivers - no reason you need them. Also, some LCDs seem to not display anything until you boot up into windows (no DOS display). Have you waited long enough when you attempt to start the system using the DVI cable? You should also try the LCD on another computer, using the DVI connector.

Yeah, I use a DVI connector.....the thing is, it DID display in digital at some point in the past...I reformatted...and it stopped....

Could be a dead dvi port. Some lesser brands have quality control where the dvi port would malfunction after awhile. Could be yours just crapped out.

can a monitor still display HD content on an analog connection, or does it have to be digital?

If you are talking about HDCP, it only applies to digital signals so I would think you can display it over analog. You can also use the software anydvd hd by slysoft to bypass HDCP.

Yup, that happened to my g/f's LCD.

The last time my display didn't receive a signal through DVI it was a case of malfunctioning port. VGA worked 'fine' but no luck with digital signal. Luckily my warranty hadn't ran out so I got the LCD replaced.

yeah warranty is long over on this

I honestly didn't notice a difference when it was in Digital though. So no big loss I guess. I'm just planning to set up my computer to receive HD signals, so that's why I wanted the digital. If it's not needed though, I'll stick with analog

Could be the port on the video card as well. Try using the other one.
