Why does my Nexus 4 perform so much faster than big laptops?

I find it strange, my Nexus 4 browses internet really butter smooth when it scrolls websites.

Yet my mom has a asus with amd C10 those 1 GHZ CPU and my nexus 4 is light years ahead of that laptop

Infact it seems to browse the net smoother than my pentium G 3220 with IGP intel HD graphics.

What gives? my net only browses smooth on flash sites etc when I put in my HD 4870 video card but on its own the intel IGP really is slow if its a flash site. Its faster on chrome than firefox though.

Yet my nexus 4 is so smooth and fast. And its a cellphone is there something about X86 and ARM that I am not understanding? is there some magic in ARM that is responsible for this?

AMD C-series is a piece of junk, lol.

The AMD processor is most likely faster, but you've got to keep in mind that there's a few key factors in play. Operating system is a big one -- Windows is much heavier on resource usage. Perhaps the biggest difference is the storage -- phones use eMMC, whereas most PCs use HDDs.

Nope, that's probably the least-relevant factor.

I'm going to assume you don't have an SSD in you system. That's probably the biggest reason why it feels sluggish. SSD>HDD

I think maybe cause my snapdragon is quad core 1.4 GHZ with adreno 320 GPU? the C10 amd is really really really bad it cannot play 480p videos without sticking.

my nexus 4 plays HD quite fine.

I am not speaking about load times though, I mean the AMD C series when the video is playing its choppy in full screen. My nexus 4 plays in same HD resolution but butter smooth. From websites that is, my nexus 4 is significantly faster than the AMD C series.

Also laptop C series AMD browses kinda like spread sheet if you know what i mean? on a ipad or smartphone when you slide your finger down you can see the webpage falls down smoothly like an animation.

1 Ghz Bobcat on Windows is like swimming through treacle. About equivalent to a 500 mhz haswell.

The 3220 should browse fine. Perhaps you need to update the video drivers?

I think the i3 with HD 4000 series is significantly faster than the HD 2000 of the pentiumG aswell. But that AMD bobcat omg its bad on windows 7. Why did AMD even release it?

Bobcat has been available since early 2011. It's a relatively old architecture that was designed for low power use and low price from the start but was unique for being the first 'Fusion' product. It doesn't help that the C10 is one of the slowest clocked variants in the line too at 1 GHz. It only has one 64 bit memory channel as well.

Yup, it's piss poor for these days.

As mentioned the bobcat chip is older it also has less hardware accelerators for video.

While SSD improves overall responsiveness what OP perceives has little to do with it. With a faster CPU and a GPU, it is unlikely that OP will experience the sluggishness on desktop regardless of what kind of storage she or he uses.

Quick search tells me that AMD chip is old and slow. Pentium G3220 is a decent CPU which should not trouble you with browsing on CPU side. (although multiple active taps can cause troubles) You are likely experiencing trouble with its on-die GPU and/or its drivers.

But fundamentally the two platforms are very different. Imagine breaking out of a prison where the route is already provided and you just have to avoid detection. On one occasion, you are to sneak out alone. On another occasion you have to take dozen other inmates with you. (lol sorry I was watching Prison Break) The former is like Android/ARM and the latter is like Windows/x86.

Fast does not necessarily equal smooth.

maybe it is just because phones tend to use mobile version of the website , whereas laptops seek for full.:biggrin:

This is so true! A perfect example can be found in video games where a steady FPS is quite often much better than a higher FPS with large variations.
