Why does printer software keeps reinstalling?

Have got two hp 5150 printers.One is connected to server and the other is connected to a computer connected to this server.I use the non server printer as my default printer.But when I reboot my computer it loads the printer software and changes the default printer over to the server printer!Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?..........

You could try, if you haven't already, removing the drivers and software. Reboot, when the initial detection is made on the local printer ignore it(cancel and go straight into windows). Now run setup from the CD or the download if you downloaded a update. Let HP find and install the drivers instead of letting windows do it. Then I would add in the server based printer.

Yeah,I was considering reloading the drivers on both printers.The server printer is being shared with the networked computer.The networked computer has the same model printer HP5510xi as the server,but is not shared with the server.I wonder if disconnecting the shared server printer off the networked computer would fix this?It might be a conflict on sharing.I will try these both and see what happens.......................

had that same prob with a HP2510,found out through hp network troubleshooter that the network printer was not to be marked as shared,marked as told and prob ended.

Blazer are you saying that the network computer that is sharing the server printer needs to be disconnected as a shared printer?What is the procedure exactly for setting it up as a told printer?Will the network computer still be able to use the server printer after that is done?

what i had to do on my small home network was goto>start>settings>printer and faxes and unshare the printer on each computer {printer software has to be installed on each comp},not sure as what you may have to do with server,but proly the same.
