Why does something so good have to smell so bad?!?

I'm talking about the Dorian fruit. My mom calls it the stinky fruit with the property that some people find the smell really gross but others like it.

one time my sister brought some to her dorm and it stunk up the whole floor. the people living in the dorms had no idea what it was and complained to the maintenance people. they thought something died or something. to this day, they didn't know it was my sister's stinky fruit that was causing the smell!

i, myself, cannot stand the stuff. bleeeeeeeh!

yeah that stuff stinks.. my mom eats it once in awhile.. she does however put it in the freezer, so when she brings it out to eat, it's not as stinky. no way im ever going to eat that stuff.

On several occasions I had to eat durian out of courtesy when I was stationed in Thailand. I hate the smell and the taste.

Some folks will tell you that if you eat it and drink too much alcohol at the same time, you could very well die. Americans probably wouldn't typically eat it and drink at the same time, but the Thais sure don't have a problem with that idea!

yeah, apparently durian fruit melts in your mouth (savory). i believe the smell isn't so bad after you've been eating them for a while. but i wouldn't know because the smell is so bad that i'm not even tempted to try it once.

same goes for stinking (fermented) tofu, kimchee, garlic, etc. they all smell bad to people who don't eat them, and are tolerable for people who do eat them.

as for those of you with the sick minds, how would you know what that smells like anyway??? hmm...

i'm sorry but i've had smelly tofu and durian, and both are overrated. either that or my sense of taste is affected by my sense of smell more so than is true for others.

I can't stand the smell of durian. I like "Stinky Tofu" though. With some "pow! tsai!" and some hot chili sauce.... *drools*. Oh yeah and also with some mashed garlic.

Some foods I just can't eat like "10,000 yr old egg" If its a black egg I won't eat it.
