Why does the Death Penalty take so long to implement?

Arghhh!!! I'm not a big fan of the death penalty but I do think it is appropriate in our society in some cases. My only real problem with it is that it takes so long from sentencing to execution and costs so much money to finally get it done. 25 years from sentencing to execution is about 24 years too long, especially for the family of victims.

it has to do with a little thing called due process. appeals appeals appeals. i don't like it either, i'm on your side. but we have to follow the Constitution after all.

When you take someone's life for a crime they have committed, you want to be as sure as you can that you have the right man.

The convicted also goes through several appeals which can take a really long time depending on the case.

It takes so long to commit the murder because the Government et al. like to make it a fair process.

If you want the death penalty to be carried out like in China, go ahead, but don't whine if you're the first victim.

What's the point of trials, judges, and lawyers? We know who's guilty, like that Richard Jewel guy. We should just be able to kill anyone we think is guilty.

With all of the appeals on death row, it actually costs the american people much more to put someone to death than it does to give them life in prison

Oops, it's not spelled out in the constitution...what you should be saying is "we have to follow a certain group's *interpretation of* the Constitution after all."

And I'm also on your side and on the side of the constitution...

Considering that an alarming percentage of people on deathrow are innocent (This is a fact), I think it's better to give them extra time to prove their case vs. throwing them right in the chair.

Well when you see that in the last few years there have been over 100 people released off of death row that have been there anywhere from 12 to 25 years why be in a hurry. I loved the Richard Jewell comment someone made, they really had him convicted in the press and on this board also. I never saw a apology from any of the media. Rivera was the worst.

thats because it is done wrong. i would be cheaper if they would execute the ones we **KNOW** did it like Jeffrey Dahmer. and the arguement that it costs such and such amount of money because the lethal injection is expensive, and the eletricity for electricution, that holds no weight with me. How much is a six foot piece of rope at the hardware store?

Whoops! i agree with ya. jumped the gun on that one and you are right, it IS a certain group's (i.e. Supreme Court) interpretation. good catch.

Considering the ethnical bias in the U.S juditional system it is a good thing that it takes some time before the sentence is carried out!
If it really has to be effected!!
