The loonie returners do not need a valid reason. Here is a running list of their "legitimate" reasons why Romney must do as they demand:

Cause everyone else is doing it.
Cause I said so.
Cause he is cheating on his returns and I can prove it if he releases them even though the IRS cannot.
Cause I need to know exactly how he earns his money since the Secret Service is unable to tell if he is being paid by a foreign power to subvert the US. (or some other equally idiotic conspiracy theory)
Cause his dead dad did it once.
Cause transparency means he has to do what I demand.
Cause he is following the tax law just like me and I am mad about it.

Prominent Repubs also want him to release his tax returns. They're looney, too?

http://thinkprogress.org/election/2...romney-to-release-more-tax-returns-right-now/

Actually, I think some of them are but for different reasons entirely. Even a blind squirrel finds a few acorns, after all. OTOH, they're prominent members of the conservative movement, so go figure.

Yes. Loonie returners are loonie returners regardless of their party affiliation. Had you not been so partisan, you would already have known that.

The greatest Republican sponsored looting spree in the history of finance has consequences? Wow. Who knew?

It is Bush's fault, really! It is...pretend Obama never said he would fix it in 4 years instead of making it worse.

Few people realized at the time what the full extent of the devastation really was, Obama among them.

He didn't make it worse- he halted the decline in many respects, despite Repub obstructionism at every turn.

Notice what was happening in Jan 2009-

There are no economic miracles in the aftermath of an enormous credit bubble- just a lot of deleveraging, lack of demand, liquidity trap, even a deflationary spiral were it not for action by the Fed & the Treasury.

And the first rule of being a crook is to never rat yourself out, which Romney will follow at all costs.

I thought you said it was not the "cause he is hiding something" loonie line? Make up your loonie returner mind already!

Ah, so Obama's failure is someone else's fault still.

I really don't care if he has been avoiding taxes or not paying them. He is filthy rich whether he pays $40mil in taxes or holds onto it. I really don't care what he does with it. If I were in his position I would keep it.

Obama has done nothing for 4 years. Now that is a record that nobody has to release, it is clearly visible.

John McCain was saying that the fundamentals of the economy were sound, remember? Along with every right wing pundit in America.

You failed to address the most pertinent part of my post, for obvious reasons. Here it is again-

Well, you gotta hand it to the Repubs. They've managed to turn an economic disaster that they had everything to do with into a noose and hung it around Obama's neck.

Best example of a public lynching I've ever seen.

That chart is beyond stupid.

Seriously.

Why dont you put up a chart showing the number of nuclear disasters/tsunamis/droughts that happened while Obama was in power.

And at the same time this so called Obama chart omits such critical facts like we were losing 800,000 jobs/month when he took over.

Selective editing is the only way the GOP has a shot this fall

Although some of the figures (gas prices especially) are hardly contextual the fact remains that many are as stated and have gotten worse not better. That's for a variety of reasons and no Bush is not to blame for it all but it does answer the question of "why". If one diverts attention to something potentially inflammatory but unrelated to the specific needs of the electorate it will keep others from looking at Obama and his record. No one gives a crap about Romneys tax return if they are job hunting in a terrible market, or at least they shouldn't be.

It keeps the buck from landing on Obamas desk.

Your persistent use of "loonie" is hilarious to me. I've never encountered a person who is so fixated on using a word he doesn't know how to spell. You're a peach.

Which figures are off and by how much? I know that besides throwing money into programs that not much has been proposed to correct fundamental issues such as changes in trade policies. GM was a positive for workers, but when no one really wants tio tackle tough issues then it's on everyone.

Hayabusa, you do understand that the economy is like a cruise ship, not a speedboat? It doesn't turn on a dime.

Measuring statistics from the day of inauguration is inherently misleading, and especially so in the case of Obama because of the chart shown in post #30 -- when he was sworn in, the US economy was in the middle of the big drop on a roller coaster.

If you hide them...there must be a reason.

  • Simple reason, being rich and paying lower taxes looks bad.
  • Proper response is a national debate whether we should tax his gains as income.

  • Conspiracy reason, he didn't pay anything!
  • Proper response - remove Harry Reid from office.

My suspicion is at this point they know exactly what's in them. Today's latest news is most telling. Reports indicate that the Obama campaign has promised to not ask for any more returns if Romney delivers the last 5 years of his taxes (including the two he is set to return). This would roughly detail 2007-2011.

Let's think about why they are only asking for 5 years. Seems like an odd number, especially when most want to see returns dating back to '99 when Romney left Bain Capital.

My theory is this. In 2009 the IRS offered an amnesty program to those hiding money in offshore accounts. This was granted to roughly 15,000 taxpayers. I'm willing to put money on the line that Mitt Romney is one of them. I think this is the real reason why we will NEVER see anymore than two years of his taxes.

Romney is a tax fraud and cheat and got caught red-handed by the IRS. If this were to ever leak out his campaign would be done in an instant.

Initial theory is acceptable.
Do you think you brain eaves ate so much better than Dems from Mass or in the Obama campaign

Last paragraph is slander and typical mud slinging of one who is scared.

You can not prove what you state, so gossip/rumors drive your satisfaction

Really Dave? Which ones are lies? Be specific. Frankly, you are just as bad as they are, throwing out clueless attacks because it's not what you want to believe.

I expect each of those figures is accurate, though I haven't verified them. (Indeed, it is probably more factually accurate than most of the slime we hear from the RNC propaganda mill these days.) The problem with that graphic is it is grossly misleading as a whole. It uses cherry-picked figures, ignores context (imagine that), and insinuates the changes are all somehow Obama's fault when there are in truth a myriad of factors in play.

He has no choice. He cannot ever admit he is wrong about anything. He first misspelled it out of ignorance. You pointed it out for him, but that leaves him with a quandary. If he changes now, it will be admitting he made an error. Even worse, it means you "won" that point. That is unacceptable to his ego, so he must dig in his heels, continue the error, and pretend that's what he intended all along. Interestingly, this is exactly the behavior Moonbeam has been describing.

I think it's quite likely Romney is hiding something. He wants to run the country but feigning to be bashful over tax returns from a few years back? Sorry, Mittens, if you are running for pres you don't get to be quite so private as the rest of us.

You are by far the greatest liar on the forums, I would in fact say you lie more than everybody else here combined, and I am sure many would agree.
