Why does The Weather Channel suck?

My DirecTv HD DVR used to insert basic local on the 8 slides, but it hasn't done that for the past few months.

Yeah. They expect everyone to use the DirecTV weather app. It works, but I miss being able to see the animated weather maps. The default radar doesn't show historical images...so you can only guess which way the systems are actually moving.

They got rid of all their long-time on-camera meteorologists. AKA the people who were actually meteorologists.

They also ruined Local On The 8's with pop music.

I used to be a huge TWC fan. Haven't tturned them on since NBC took over.

yea, and it was way over due. the only time i saw the weather channel do weather was during a hurricane and they dust off that prick Cantori and send him out to report on the storm. other than that it was just stupid reality shows that have nothing to do with weather like prospecting and ice pilots...

now its a weather station that ACTUALLY reports the weather. yea!

Updated post. WeatherNation beats Weather Channel hands down....They actually have weather and no Storm Stories.

Now my next weather related rant: I wish the local and national news would STOP MAKING THE WEATHER A HEADLINE. They shouldn't be able to do that unless more than 50 people die from a particular storm or warn people to evacuate due to tornado or hurricane. I'm sick of hearing them complain about "ANOTHER ROUND OF COLD WEATHER!!!" Heck...it's winter. I wonder if they're going to be surprised in another 4 months when temps reach 100 degrees somewhere. That's not news....that's weather forcast. They need to report about real news instead of using weather as filler.

I'm in total agreement....the Internet has also replaced most cable and satellite services for streaming video....heck even my DirecTV service is using streaming over the Internet for their OnDemand service.

However....if I can use the remote that's already in my hand to pop over to check live weather the old fashioned way, it's pretty easy. I don't exactly watch it every day...it's just convenient to watch when I'm watching live TV or wanting to get excited about a storm system that's about to hit my area. This time of year, it's fun watching snow clouds and try to guess if my yard will be covered.

My initial post was a rant because I wanted weather and found that the Internet was more effective than a TV Network that was failing badly at the service were founded to provide. decides to diversify.

Weather Channel went full sensationalist tabloid a few years ago. It isn't even worth a glance anymore. I can't imagine how disappointed they were last year with no hurricanes.

I have always watched a show called Weather/World that comes from the meteorology dept. at Penn State. Actual, real meteorologists. The guys who were on years ago started Accuweather, so I check that online. Now I see they are going to launch the Accuweather channel this fall. I hope Comcrap picks it up. I can't stand TWC.
