So a guy come right up to Trudeau's face on the street, so close that Trudeau needs to raise his arms to keep the guy back. Another incident the same day, a woman who was a Green Party candidate threw pumpkin seeds at him. No charges filed. Things like this don't happen to a US President without guns being drawn and probably fired. Well there was the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoe at Bush, but that was in Iraq.

We're not as insane here, the biggest threat for the PM is being assaulted with pumpkin seeds. In the states someone who tries that would probably be snipped from 10 different directions. The states are always super gungho about extreme measures. Heck everybody just roams freely on parliament hill here. It's kinda neat to see, it's more like a community park. You need to go through security to get in though and have to be with a tour guide.

Though I'm surprised Harper did not have his own full blown security force, he was very "American" in the way he thought. He came up with Bill C-51, pretty much enough said. That's basically our version of the patriot act. He also singed the TPP... but Trudeau probably would have signed too he seems to be very pro "free trade" as well. We need an NDP government if we want real change. Both Liberal and Conservative are just as bad really. Trump is right when he says NAFTA is the worse thing ever signed. It has costs us so many jobs over the years. TPP is going to make it worse, but it also has tons of other provisions that don't even have to do with trade that will be extremely bad too.

As the son of a pot smoking flower child, he, likewise, is on a perpetual high and subsequently says yes to everything. Let potential terrorists willy nilly into the country ? Why Yes ! Run a huge increased deficit the country has no way to repay ? Of course !

That inherited attitude creates in him little fear of external events and so he seeks little protection. Being inundated with pumpkin seeds (really, is that the best you got ? ) likely confirms his high-- see ? Nothing in the world to fear.

And to give him some credit, Ottawa is not Dallas.

So... lemme just get this straight. You're suggesting that demonstrates that there's something wrong with Canadians?

ETA: I mean, of course, if an incident like that occurred here in the US, the "pumpkin seeds" would probably be Drano or sulfuric acid, not, you know, actual pumpkin seeds, so firing guns when someone here goes to throw something in a politician's face might - more often than not, anyway - be the more appropriate course of action, But still, I'm not seeing how the incident in the OP, as it actually happened, is in any way a negative comment on Canada, fer chrissakes..
