He can't actually afford a bodyguard after giving all the money he got from Alberta to Bombardier.

They probably don't have to worry about some redneck packing heat in a comparable incident.

Canadian PM buys his own groceries? Can you imagine Obama or Clinton buying groceries? I doubt that either pays for their own meals. LOL.

So a guy come right up to Trudeau's face on the street, so close that Trudeau needs to raise his arms to keep the guy back. Another incident the same day, a woman who was a Green Party candidate threw pumpkin seeds at him. No charges filed. Things like this don't happen to a US President without guns being drawn and probably fired. Well there was the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoe at Bush, but that was in Iraq.

You have no clue.......if you believe for a minute that he has no protection....

To be specific though, Michelle O was at Target when she was spotted, so I guess it wasn't groceries. Maybe underwear or something.

That wasn't just some passerby who took that pic. Might as well be an ad for Target. Maybe other world leaders and their families can manage to shop normally on occasion, but I doubt that's been the case for the U.S. for a long time.

Yes that is the conspiracy theory that it was a planned photo shoot. But it's a conspiracy theory.

We're not as insane here, the biggest threat for the PM is being assaulted with pumpkin seeds. In the states someone who tries that would probably be snipped from 10 different directions. The states are always super gungho about extreme measures. Heck everybody just roams freely on parliament hill here. It's kinda neat to see, it's more like a community park. You need to go through security to get in though and have to be with a tour guide.

Though I'm surprised Harper did not have his own full blown security force, he was very "American" in the way he thought. He came up with Bill C-51, pretty much enough said. That's basically our version of the patriot act. He also singed the TPP... but Trudeau probably would have signed too he seems to be very pro "free trade" as well. We need an NDP government if we want real change. Both Liberal and Conservative are just as bad really. Trump is right when he says NAFTA is the worse thing ever signed. It has costs us so many jobs over the years. TPP is going to make it worse, but it also has tons of other provisions that don't even have to do with trade that will be extremely bad too.
holy shit a leftist bigot. Never thought i'd see the day.

NDP committed suicide by ejecting Mulcair. He was the best thing that ever happened to that party. It'll be 10 years before they have a shot at regaining the kind of support and popularity that he had. But they're well in the pockets of Unions across the country. No dice for me.

Mulclair lost it because he went into panic mode as soon as the Liberals started to gain momentum, there was a look of panic in him and he started to promise way to many things....Mulclair paniced

How quickly we forget, one of the things George Bush promised was to reopen Pennsylvania Avenue that was closed during the Clinton administration. People would be shocked at just how open the Washington I grew up in was. There was a bus tunnel and station under the Pentagon and a small shopping center that anyone could go to. We used to skip school and go run around the Capitol, exploring pretty much anywhere we wanted to go. Any government building was considered a public space that anyone could enter. We used to drive right onto Andrews AFB, Fort Belvoir, and Bolling AFB. There was a road anyone could use called Executive Avenue that went between the White House and the Old Executive Office building.

Even the unions dumped him for the liberals.

Of course this was a liveshot. Like Michelle does the family shopping, just like she weeds her White House vegetable garden.

These are good examples of security attitudes between the USA and Canada. The secret service would never allow someone on the street to get within a 1000 feet of the president, unless they had preapproved clearance or were paid for the photo op. I remember that WJC use to jog to Mickey D's for burgers and a supersizing in DC. It drove the SS crazy.

Entire roads and interstates are shutdown when Obama visits a city. Screw the drivers whose commute has an extra hour to two tacked on. Wouldn't be surprised these days if govt snipers were on roof tops watching, when Michelle visited Target. I guess the difference in attitude is that Canada hasn't had a 911 attack or attempts on the life of their top politician.

I would not really consider myselft left, nor right more in the middle - some cases left makes sense other cases right makes sense. I think going extreme on one side is bad, and that is one flaw of the NDP they tend to be a bit TOO socialist. But in general they are also more for the people, which is what I like about them. A government should be for the people, not for themselves, not for the corporations. I've pretty much always voted for them. They've always won the riding here for as long as I can remember.

I did not mind Mulcair but seemed a lot of people did not like him, so perhaps a new leader will give them a better chance next time. This election was about getting rid of Harper more than anything so I think people were more about strategic voting. So that was bad for the NDP.

Trudeau is still better than Harper though, so at least there's that. Harper was practically a dictator.
