The simple fact is a "fair" tax system in which we all paid the same would particularly suck for people of less means. It's also extremely hard to identify how much we all benefit from taxes. You use a road, but if I own a trucking company I use it a lot more than you do.

I dont use welfare, I still pay for it. I dont use schools, I still pay for them. I dont ever drive on road A, but I pay for its upkeep.

It is only fair that everyone pays the same amount. It doesnt matter how much you make, the only way for it to be fair is to have a flat tax.

As long as we're falling all over each other to come up with retarded solutions for how to make things more fair, why is it that different jobs pay different amounts? Every job should pay exactly the same, whether you're the best surgeon in the world or the guy flipping burgers at 55 because you were too lazy to pursue an education. And, hey, when everyone is making exactly $47,000 or so, that $10,000 tax bill won't feel so bad.

After all, it's fair.

Taxes themselves are not fair, so it is impossible to make a fair system. Stop trying. Submit, and try your best to be happy with where you are.

There is not 1 end all solid soluation to tax "fairness". What would benefit one group, would cripple another, etc. The only thing I know now, is the rich don't pay enough. The rich are richer now than they have ever been before.

it only seems fair if you think about it. take the entire budget, divide it by the number of people, and have everyone pay the same percentage. that way the game is even.

likewise for corporations, they could each pay the same percent.

Because it doesn't make sense to give poor people government aid, then take some of it back as tax.

No its not, not even close.

You dont "earn" the right to pay taxes, it is thrust upon you whether you like it or not. You do, however, earn whatever money you make.

Keep trollin though!

If you think paying taxes is unfair, buy your own island and provide your own services.

LOL, ever wonder why the rich have mor emoney?

Its called inflation, a million dollars today is like 100,000 yesterday........the reason the rich get richer is BECAUSE of government, not in spite of.

And the poor use more gov't services($$$) than those who are productive members of society. and if you own a trucking company, you are already paying a fortune in road taxes per state, fuel tax, etc... Or haven't you noticed all the little tax stickers on the big rigs?

Nice try.

Productive = income tax revenue. When they are net even or actually contributing INCOME taxes then they will not be consuming as much gov't services and tax dollars.

Yes, I know that. Nice try again.

Again, when their income taxes are at least a net even after various deductions and so forth, then they can be considered productive. I was part of the working poor over twenty years ago barely living paycheck to paycheck. The difference was, I didn't start a family as that would have been idiotic at the time. I understand some people slip in and out of that status - Gainfully employed to working poor. I don't have a problem with that cycle. I have a problem with those in the perpetual state of working poor. Sometimes it is by choice and sometimes by location, and sometimes bad luck... But it can be overcome. Nearly half the population of this country is getting some form of gov't assistance. That in itself is a travesty. The welfare roles are so high that we can't even truly help anyone that slips into the prison that public assistance turns out to become for them. If we fought the fraud, ended benefits for lifers, we'd actually be able to help people beyond just merely helping them persist.

Yes you know that yet you claim the poor are not productive members of society?

I think one of the problems many have is not realizing what taxes another is talking about.

Almost all local infrastructure is paid out of property taxes.

Federal taxes are almost never used for our roads, schools and the like.

Many don't know that.

This doesn't scale to the Fair Tax which is Federal based.

or everybody should pay something. having half our populatoin not paying any fed taxes is a problem.

It's not actually a problem.

I believe the phrase is blood from a stone. Asking the poor to pay more is not going to yield appreciable results.
