To Stoneburner,
If nothing else, you forced me to go to the Biden website to see what his position is now, but he definitely does not advocate the partition of Iraq into three separate countries. And instead relies on local control by each group while somewhat ducking the question of what to do about mixed cities. And the whole plan is predicated by assuming an oil deal can be reached in which the Sunni's, who have no oil in the regions they would end up controlling, would somehow get 20% of all Iraqi oil that would be controlled by the Shia's and the Kurds.
All in all I am somewhat amazed that Biden's assessment of what Iraq has become and why is very similar to mine, but I do not think his plan is the only one worth exploring.
But at least its a plan that would rely on some hard diplomatic jawboning rather than the GWB wishful thinking. And if nothing else, Turkish saber rattling in Northern Iraq may have the net effect of preventing the Kurds from developing itchy feet.
