Why doesn't my computer recognize certain CD's?

On some of my games I have like Black & White and Homeworld when I put the CD in and the install screen comes up (this is after I already have installed it) I can click play and everything works. But when the disk is in there and I click on the icon to play it, an error pops up saying I don't have the right CD in. I am running Win2k, so do you think that could be the problem, because it is not just with one game, it's 3 or 4 of them. I thought B&W was supposed to work w/2k though. I can play it when I click on the play button on the auto setup.

Sounds like your cdrom drive to me!
Do you have another drive you can try?

Your drive may not like the safedisk2 (is that correct?) copy protection scheme the newer games have. I recall reading some drives have problems reading these types of disks. Damn anti-piracy bastards! When will they learn that they can never stop piracy! Just make it more affordable and more people will by it! my 2 cents.

Do you have too CD Drives? are the shortcuts pointing to the right drive? Have you changed your hardware config after installing the games?

First -- They are not copies CD's. I actually spent my hard earned money on these.

Second -- I have a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW, and it does the same thing on both of them. I haven't changed any hardware on them.

Which DVDROM drive? I have a pioneer slot load 105, and the Diablo2 CD protection wouldn't read in it until I patched it. I have B&W, but haven't tried it yet with the new drive

I never said you are using &quot;copied&quot; disks. Some drives have problems reading the original disks that have some anti piracy crap on them.

No idea abotu the drive, but I know at least B&amp;W has been patched since its release, and I imagine homeworld would have been by now. The game patches may fix things
