Why don't I feel appropriately refreshed?

Alright I'm going to reseat the video card and sacrifice the appropriate ritualistic animals tonight but I still have not been able to kill this monitor bug. I hooked my new Dell (I know, I know I sold out...) up to an old POS monitor that I have from when 166 was fast just to see if it was the card or the monitor and naturally the adapter (NVIDIA 32mb 2MX) freaks out, doesn't recognize it, and disables the refresh adjust...and the picture is fine. Same resolution 1024X768 as my Ultrascan P991. So I hook my monitor back up to it without killing the computer, turn it on... and no flicker. Of course the refresh rate adjustment is still disabled so I reboot to see if the problem is really gone. ME restarts and the screen flickers during boot up but when ME pops up its a stable image. It's also at 60Hz. If I push it over 60 the flicker returns. When I hook up the Ultrascan to my old 166Pentium the screen flickers during boot but is fine in windows (of course it's probably also at 60hz by default with the POS card I have in there.) Is there any reason to think that I don't need to boot the Monitor back to Dell. Is this even possibly a card issue? Is there anything else I should check?

Hi

Do you have a INF file for the monitor, or is it set to DEFAULT in the display settings.

Try PLUG AND PLAY monitor to see if that helps.

60 Hz is the default refresh rate that the worst monitors should be able to reach and thats what windows defaults to if it does not recognise the monitor properly.

The flicker may be due to a refresh rate that is not quite what the monitor is expecting.

If you do have the right INF file for the monitor then it sounds broken but I can't see why it should work at any refresh rate in that case.

Sorry, perhaps I shou;d have added more detail. I have checked the drivers, gotten the updated ME drivers for the monitor and installed them. I took BadThad's advice from an earlier post and made sure that I wasn't using the microsoft default drivers. When the screen is booting it always flickers. When its in windows it flickers above 60Hz. When using DVD or Diablo2 no flicker... My concern is that I send back the right part... Mon or VidCard
