Why don't pedestrians ever run?

I have to say people who refuse to walk faster or jog across the street are just plain rude to cars.
Pedestrians do have the right of way, but if it is abused they should be warned and if they still disobey then just run them over.

Wait, are you talking about a crosswalk at a traffic light or are you referring to one at a stop sign?

If it's at a red light while waiting to turn right, as long as it's green on their side you need to stfu. You can make up for time once you turn (you're in a car, remember?). I get pissed at pedestrians too when I am driving and I'm in a hurry, but I remind myself that on Sundays when I am crossing the street to get to church, other people are waiting for me as well.

If it's at a stop sign, then tough sh!t. As they said in driver's ed, "Driving is a privilege, not a right." Walking, however, is a right. Cars have radios for a reason--use yours to keep your mind off of stuff like this. Before you know it, you've already arrived at your destination. Now that wasn't so hard, was it?

I agree with OP to an extent, I walk/run faster when I am holding cars back, I jsut feel bad almost. But then, I don't get mad at people if they don't move faster if the roles are reversed.

I have no problem with how slow of fast they go as long as they are on a cross walk. I cant stand the j-walkers who just walk across anywhere and take their time. For one it's dangerous. If there is no cross walk dont just pop out and start walking. And also just wait for the damn road to be clear then walk. You can wait two freaking seconds for me to drive by before you start walking. Then you will have a totally clear road and not incovenienced any drivers. If it's a busy road and I see people waiting I'll stop for them so they can get across though. But for the most part if you are not at a light or cross walk and are j-walking you should not make traffic slow down or stop for you at all.

Couldn't agree more. People have no clue how to jaywalk in this country...in the rest of the world, you cross when the road is empty, because otherwise you'll get run over!

It wouldn't have to be illegal if people weren't such tards about it.

I dont like it when I have pet-peeves but one of mine is the dumb bastards who stop in the middle of the road and let jaywalkers go by.

Its rude to drive in a congested area. If it upsets you try being a pedestrian for once.

I'm a pedestrian all the time at college. I ALWAYS hustle across the street. Why? My parents taught me to...like they taught me to be polite in all things.

i agree with you. When someone is driving by and i notice them i usually jog. when i'm walking with friends, i tell them to jog, and if they say no, i ask them to just let the car pass and we should just wait. I hate it when people don't speed it up, its rude.

Can you not wait 5 seconds to let someone cross? You come across as more of an impatient a-hole, which is worse than lazy which you also could be considering you're the one in the comfortable car as opposed to the pedestrian who is hoofing it.

Which is more "polite":

A. letting someone cross who is exposed to the elements while you're in a comfortable car

B. hurry up for impatient jerks who take comforts so much for granted that their huge conveniences have them believe that it is such a huge inconvenience to wait?

I guess there shouldn't a right or wrong answer either way, because in a "perfect" world both driver and pedestrian would do the "polite" thing. The pedestrian realizing the driver had to alter his/her approach and slow/stop to let the pedestrian pass and thus hurry up; while the driver would be polite and realize his/her advantage in transportation and give right of way to the challenged commuter.

But that advantage is the key; the driver is in a car that not only makes transportation easier and more comfortable, the driver can easily splatter the pedestrian all over the pavement.

People in cars have the advantage and thus when it comes to "manners" or being "polite" such people should be the ones doing the insufferable sacrifice of waiting an extra couple of seconds for a pedestrian to cross. I know its hard, but with years of practice anyone (even you) can do it.

Now there are several rare cases where I might actually agree with you (people crossing parts of the street where there is no crosswalk and not hurrying when they do it), but for the most part I don't.
