why don't people learn how to tip?

Since i'm done with summer class and I'm not working full time, I decided to help out my dad with his store. He has a laundromat. I usually don't get payed because it's a family business.

Anyways, we have free drop-off and pick-up of service. Usually we have about 3 to 5 deliveries each night. Tonight I had 3 and I came out with a tip of 2 bucks total(and that's only because 1 person decieded to tip). Which means that I didn't get any tip for the other 2. Now is it so hard to tip a dollar or two? To be honest, I would be more than happy if a person just tips me a buck. There's nights were I don't get nothing out of 5 deliveries.

Damn that sucks. I just had to rant.

cuz it's not a tip if the person receiving the tip is expecting it!
that's called a salary!

tipping is stupid, like fair enough you dont get paid cose its a family business but o well
why give someone money when they are already getting paid to do there job, if they dont like how much they are earning, quit and get a better job

No offense, but when I was waiting tables for $2.15/hr USD, I expected a tip. That's why I was "salaried" for sh!t.

By your reasoning I should've never been tipped.

Actually, I don't expect anything. I've been doing this for years and I know that 90% of the time, I don't receive anything. I'm used to it. It's just the thought that bothers me. Of course, like i said, I would love to get a buck or two.

to clarify, tipping was started to motivate people in the service industry to perform at their best, or do more than the call of duty. For instance, I work at a high-class liquor store and I sometimes help people with large purchases carry their stuff to their cars. The job descrition asks me to carry it out to them so they could load it into their cars, the tipping motivation is when you actually help them load it into the trunk or whatever. And even if I don't get a tip, I won't complain! consider it as doing a favor, cuz I'm still getting paid.

but I guess I understand your piont bigrash9, since you're not getting paid at all... but then, the customers don't know that.!

I tip depending on how well that person does their job, and how fat my wallet is at the current moment.

A worker expecting to supplement their wages with tips is falling victim to being underpaid As well as taking advantage of humanities sheep like nature and kindness.

I worked computer retail and often carried boxes of gear to customers cars, and even on occasion delivered them to their houses.

Never expected a tip, cos that was a part of the job.

Then we'd have no waiters. Furthermore, if waiters got paid $10/hr, you think they'd give a sh!t whether or not they served you well? Nope. They give you good service because you're supposed to tip them in return.

I can see what you mean bigrash9. Unless I'm flat broke (and there were a couple of times there in college) I always leave at least 15% on the table (more if it was really good service, and sometimes more if I have to make up for a broke/stingy friend). Furthermore, I always tip food delivery guys, maids, barbers, bellhops, taxi drivers, etc. an appropriate amount. Hell, I even tip at Sonic!

I can imagine what it must be like to earn a wage of $2.00 an hour--despite what urameatball said earlier, peaople in those situations ARE expecting tips because their wage alone fars fall below minimum wage. Even if it's bad service, I still leave a tip--everyone has a bad day once and a while. If something was that bad I'd speak to the manager about it (and he may give me my whole meal free).

Oh, and a piece of fun trivia... did you know that TIP is an acronym? It means

To Insure Promptitude
