You could make the exact same argument for cars. Should it be okay for cars to ride against traffic?

It pisses me off when people on a bicycle think they are above the law.:|

I once saw a guy on a bike ride amongst traffic on a two-lane one-way street, and decided he didn't have to stop for the red lights, so he just went on through, right in the middle of the street. not smart, not legal.

A) You're retarded
B) Bikes weigh 20 pounds and and tiny where as motorcycles, dirt bikes and horses weigh hundreds of pounds and are large. The hazard from bicycles is minimal if not moot to everyone but the cyclist. Not the same story with a horse.

Exactly what I was taught. Same thing for walking.

If you know how bad bike riders smell, you wouldn't wanna get up close to them.

It's true for walking but not for cycling. Lets assume that your walking against the flow of traffic so cars should see you. On the off chance that one doesn't, you can simply step off of the road. On a bicycle, you are going much faster (anywhere from 10 mph - 25 on a flat road depnding on your conditioning.) The driver of the car has much less time to adjust to you and you would have to hop a curb that is parrallel to your tires.

Finally, it is against the law, cyclists in 99% of the US are supposed to act like cars do and the only time they may ride on a sidewalk is when it is also a bicycle trail. Recall also that bicylces have reflectors and if they are out after dark most states require them to have a white headlight (visible 300 yards away) and a red tailight (most of these flash making them impossible to miss).

Edit: be smart and ride outside of the doorzone or be very alert.

bicycles, by law, MUST obey ALL rules of the road. driving against the flow of traffic is against the law, bud.
