Why don't we have 4 day work weeks, 3 day weekends? (POLL)

OK, this is just the laziness in me talking, but I think it's a good idea.
I know most of you wouldn't mind it either, right?

True, we'll all be earning less at 32 hours per week, but everything is relative anyway.
If the whole world adopts 4 day work weeks, goods will cost 1/5 less, so you'll still be able to afford everything you have now.

The biggest reason is that we need more time to be with family and friends, and just to relax in general.

So who's with me?

I'd inquire as to whether you have ever taken a basic Economics course, but the profound stupidity of your statement leads me to revise my question.

Are you retarded?

LOL, better yet employers could compensate employees by providing higher salaries for less time worked, that way it works out

I work a 4 day week and take either Friday or Monday off. 3> 9.75 hour days and 1>9.50 hour day. Sweet deal.

Hey, i only work 3.5 days a week. I still put in 45+ hours. I work 3 days for 13 hours and 1 day sfor 7.5 hours. I get an hour lunch for each of the long days and plenty of overtime. I like this system better. Longer weekends and the long days really don't bother me. It's pretty sweet. I'm gonna hate quitting this job and end up going back to 5 day work week.

Many people work 4 10's, I did it for well over a year. As long as you get it set so your work days are 4 straight then three off, it's a nice schedule. The three days off is nice, but you don't tend to accomplish much on the first day.

What I would REALLY like is 3 12's, and just not get paid for the 4 hours a week I'd be missing. The advantages presented by four days off per week would far outweigh the 10% reduction in pay.

I used to work 3 twelves, get paid for 40. That ruled. Only had to work around 13 days a month

My fiance is going to try and get a line at the hospital that works seven, ten hour shifts in a row, get's paid for 80 hours, and then has 7 days off.

I absolutely detest the 40 hour, 8-5 work week.

I wouldn't mind it, but I think I like my schedule as it is. I have enough time to do stuff in the evenings this way. With a 4 day 10 hour schedule my evenings would be shot.

I liked it best when I was working 3, with 4 off in a row. Now I'm working 4, with three off, but making a little extra money as a tradeoff.

5 days is for suckers. I know, I used to be one of those suckers!

No I haven't, so could you please enlighten me on why it wouldn't work.

I'm sorry I'm not as smart and as knowledgeable as you are.

My problem is that very few IMPORTANT services are open conveniently when I need them open. Try getting to the bank, or the post office when you work 8-5 with a half hour commute each way and they are only open from 8:30-5:00. Same goes for many other businesses. Only open on business hours....all of which I'm working during:|

Sure, some of them are open for limited hours on Saturday, they are limited in services(ever see a mortgage advisor in on Saturday?), and the last thing I want to do on my two days of freedom are running around taking care of things like paying bills, mailing packages, ect.

why not work 40 hrs straight and then you'd have almost the whole week free to do whatever?

no, you'd have roughly 1/5 as many goods, so you wouldn't, because demand is the same so the prices go up. but you're making less money. so now you're doubly screwed.

and the heart attack rate would be higher.
