You are just naive. I was pretty naive until I was robbed lol.

How am I naive? How much were robbed and was it while you were walking around away from your car/home? Yeah you are less likely to get robbed if you carry a gun around, but you are also more likely to die from a robbery if you carry a gun around also. You obviously weren't killed when you were robbed while you might have been if you had pulled a gun out. Pulling a gun out might scare a robber or it might turn a simple robbery into a life/death situation.

It's a personal responsibility thing. Relying on criminals to only be after money isn't something that some of us are willing to do. The same with relying on police to get there in time. If you find that the burden of carrying a gun outweighs the risks of not being able to defend yourself in some cases, then don't carry one. It's not for everyone.

I see a few gun threads pop up from time to time.

As a Canadian, I don't have the right to carry a firearm guaranteed to me under our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but if I did, I probably wouldn't for a variety of reasons, and I think the primary reason would be that I don't have the training or the mental capacity* to decide when/where/why is the appropriate time to use it.

I'm really just curious as to why those who are guaranteed the right still don't possess or carry firearms?

*I'm not mentally challenged, nor have I been diagnosed with any type of phsychotic disorder. I just feel that, in a situation where using a firearm might be appropriate - whether for defense or offense - I might end up deciding too early or too late.

I might, possibly be a convicted felon...but even more than that, what do I need a handgun for? I don't live in a high crime area...and I'm just not a-skeered....

However, I'm not against other people having the right to carry. BUT, I DO think there needs to be a stronger background check to prevent folks with "undiagnosed mental disorders" from carrying...

I own a gun but don't carry daily. I bring it when I feel there may be a danger like being in a warehouse district on a 12am to 3am cutover.

I live in a really bad area too, but I figure I get less government focus because I don't have a gun. I have a friend who was a sheriff for a lot of years who says yeah, that puts you on a different list and with my background I'm on enough of those lists. Funny thing, I don't think I do anything illegal aside from the occasional speeding.

EDIT: Is it too late to change my answer to convicted felon, sounds funnier.

I have a few guns but feel no need to ever carry one because I don't live my life in abject fear of anyone and/or everyone. I'm just not that paranoid.

So, you are saying that only fearful, paranoid people carry guns?

It's illegal here (for good reason) but if it was legal, I probably would not either. Hassle to always have something on you... even a phone is annoying especially if the jeans are already too loose, it just adds weight.

That and I don't feel like getting into a situation where I need to decide if I should kill somebody. I will leave that to the cops. They may not always do the right decision but I rather that responsibility go on them not me. If a situation starts to go sour I'll walk away from it, and let cops deal with it, whether I call them or someone else does.

I don't care if I'm not "the hero" that stops a bank roberry from happening or something.

Every day. Just another object to me. Keys, wallet, gun, cell phone, knife, etc.

Not a big deal really.

Probably going to downgrade from daily open carrying a full size USP in .40 to a PF9 9mm concealed, as soon as I get enough range time on the PF9 to qualify it.

No fear or paranoid to do with it. Life and death happen and sometimes shit, eg what other people do, is beyond your control. Especially with the social and economic environment in the US getting darker by the day; people are getting increasingly crazy and desperate.

I wouldn't want one in my car. Too easy for them to walk off. I'd want the gun on my person, or I'd leave it home.

I work out of my car (Suburban), so I'm next to it pretty much all day. Out in dealership parking lots, typically by myself.

I carry every time i leave the house minus a few times. Going to and from work (illegal to have firearms at work) and when going ot other "gun free zones"...ie soccer games. Any other time i am conceal carry.

I have had to pull my gun once. I parked my truck and was going through some things before meeting my gf (putting sunglasses away, ipod in glovebox type stuff). Guy starts yelling at me and swearing up a storm for no apparent reason. Starts coming towards me. Couple other people in the parking garage were just watching. I tell the guy to stay back from me but he keeps coming talking about how he is going to beat me up and all this crap. Once he hit about 20 feet the gun came out pointed at his chest. Guy still came at me another good 10 feet before finally stopping. Must have finally clicked as he turned and ran away ( high on something i am sure). Only then did one of the other guys in the garage come over to ask if i was ok. Who knows what he would have done if he got closer and i am just thankful it didnt have to go any further than that.

Two other times ive had to just lift my shirt up letting them see i was carrying for them to back off.

All three times were downtown Seattle, mid day or early evening, and had other people around.

People who are anti gun seem to have some crazy idea that anyone who carries wants to play cop and robbers or be a hero. Fact is most of us want nothing more than to never have to use a gun for any reason. Rather its just a lair of security.

I'm not carrying at the moment because a .357 Magnum is really too big to carry around all the time. I'd like to get a Glock, but damn they're expensive. It's hard to spend that much money on something I really hope will be completely useless.

caliber size and gun brand really don't say much.

I am assuming you are talking about something like this:

when you could be carrying something like this:

Assume away.

I am not trying to assume, it's like the other jokers in L&R that say they are sitting on millions yet have modest careers.

What gun do you have now and where do you see yourself going?

Personally I don't like Glocks because they feel off in my hand. I like Colt/Springfield 1911's a lot. I like my brother's custom Sig P232. My CZ P01 is the best compact I have tried (and insanely reliable).

In fact, I would say for anyone if a revolver isn't in your bag (which IMHO is the most reliable handgun) the CZ P01 is what they should carry with +p or +p+ ammo.

I am also looking to buy a Casull .454. Just not sure RH or SRH. I am trying to find them locally to handle.

I worked pharma for some pretty regulated chems (the worst you can think of...). Plus advanced degree in chemistry (well, I dropped out of grad school but a fair number of graduate courses says watch out for this guy). EDIT: I get a lot of Walter White jokes.

Being able to make explosives or a biochemical <> to having a gun on you at the time when someone is about to give you a smiley.
