That's why we have a feedback system. It's like resellerratings.com that people at hot deal forums always refers to. I haven't had too much trouble with egay yet. I'm actually enjoying selling stuff to people. I know I am doing the best to keep it a good deal for the buyer, and the buyers appreciate that.

Btw, your buyer IS an idiot. How can he expect to get the item before paying. He'll just say it never arrived and not send the money.

Oh yeah, wasn't it against the terms of service for paypal to charge extra for using paypal?

If you clearly spelled out the charges (e.g., the specific shipping, extra for C.O.D. and PayPal fees), then he can't complain about those. Did you say in your auction that sending it C.O.D. was going to cost $10? I'm trying to figure out why (other than his obvious immaturity) he was so upset about the fees.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like egay for a lot of things - but I try to be smart about what I'm bidding on and when I'm selling, I spell everything out so the buyer doesn't have any chance to misunderstand me or come back later and say I changed something. If there are any fees at all, I spell them out completely, as well as stating what the terms are for me to ship (money order or cashier's check in hand, personal checks held 14 days to clear, verified PayPal only or credit card through Billpoint with receipt).

All that said, he does sound like an idiot for not understanding that you don't ship stuff you haven't been paid for. I'd be surprised if you got paid for this one - this kid sounds like a deadbeat bidder in the making.

Right...if you put it in your auction ebay will yell at you On your shipping charges, just jack them up a couple bucks and say "$2 discount on shipping for check/money order."

i never heard of that, but when you start selling 200 to 300 items, credit card fees pile up quick. ona 500 item, thats $10 in cc fees right off the top.

PA: Yep, that CC fee being no-go is true. The reason it's against Paypal's rules is because it's illegal. Don't remember what law exactly, but if you check PayPal's TOS, I'm sure its there. The Mods quoted them when they announced FS/FT posts in that forum would be checked, and any found violating that policy would be locked.

I'd be careful doing it...you may piss someone off and get reported. Some of the stories I've heard are proof enough that egay is teeming with people willing to do that because they weren't happy

If you're doing that much business, you might want to look into a merchant account. Fees might be a little better that way, especially if you do that amount of selling

how big is a router that costs $15 to ship?! I could send a normal 4 port router through USPS for $3.90 and get delivery confirmation. And that is actually kind of annoying to charge the person for the Paypal fees. you agreed to accept Paypal so you should accept the fees.

Yea...the guy would have the right to complain if you didn't state that the buyer would be paying the PayPal fees. In my book, that pretty cheap to try and add them on after the bidding.

IMO, THAT's why Egay stinks. It's become the Pricewatch of auction sights. You might get a decent deal, but the shipping is outrageous. I saw people charging $20 for shipping a Clik PCMCIA adapter kit this morning. Ack. Any more, unless its a rare item, I just prefer to flat out buy something.

Captain_Howdy: I was able to send the RT314 Router via UPS Ground for $9 across the coast + $3 for box. That's $12.

UPS ground is automatically insured for $100 (just above what the router is worth), and has tracking so I know exactly when it was delivered. I trust it more than USPS.

I charged the person $9.75 for shipping, so I lose a little money there, but counting the labor, packaging material, and the service itself, $15 isn't that bad of a rip. Only like $2 more, and that's a generous labor fee in my opinion.

$20 shipping for the Click! zip thing is outrageous tho.

things I hate on Egay:

1. Individuals who sell on egay and refer to themselves as "our, we, us" when having correspondence.

2. People who send personal checks when I clearly state that I only accept CASHIER'S CHECKS! some people are just too lazy or stupid.

3. People who win auctions and never respond to email

4. People who have fees that aren't stated in the auction. If you say that you accept COD, and you DO NOT mention that you charge extra for COD, then you shouldn't charge extra, and if I were the buyer, I would tell you to %^$$&@#&%@#@

5. People who try to pay with credit cards via paypal, and then want it shipped to another address than the one that is listed as their CONFIRMED address in Paypal. I ONLY ship to the confirmed address.

6. Paypal itself, Paypal has no tool for rejecting payments via credit card when the person has no confirmed address.

I've had good luck, so far, with that well-known auction site. But I always check feedbacks on people I don't know - anything that even begins to look like a problem means I don't bid. Most of my dealings (in the buying area) have been with people I know through other sources (such as faire) or people with which I've had a small deal go well.

I'm about to enter the seller's world, though (actually, my hubby is). He is a woodcarver and has decided to try selling one of his items out there. We're still in the process of getting decent pictures and finding the best place to upload them, etc., and discussing whether opening a PayPal account would be worthwhile at this point; the latter will depend upon whether there is a reasonable auction market for his kind of art.

Should be interesting.

what i don't get is how egay let unregistered ppl bid... some jack a$$ did that for my AIW 128 way back when.. he bid $200!!! (at the time wasn't worth that).. egay make me cough up the fees as a "successful bid".. blah.

and my latest egay is Office XP First line after the office XP image (note, just a little image, not a box or anything):

"You are bidding on Microsoft Office XP 2002 Standard Upgrade"

I get teh following email : "Cancel my bid you did not specify that this is standard edition, not the proffesional. I don't know how to retrac the bid."

Granted, my TITLE doesn't specify because i ran outta room, i figured ppl would read the first line before bidding.

I have sold close to 100 items on egay... 10% of the buyers are TOTAL idiots! I recently had some moron bid on an item and he had no feedback. On my auction it clearly states if you have no or negative feedback please email me prior to bidding... I purposely have that to keep out of situations, with newbies having no clue what is going on! Luckily he uses AOL, so I IM him (the conversation lasts 2 hours). First he says he wants to pay by Visa, My auction states that I dont except payments other than PayPal & Money order... Then he says he isnt buying it, I have to explain to him that it is a legal contract, yadda, yadda. Then he asks me to send the item first and when he gets it he will send me a check, I'm like, yeah right, this is why I HATE dealing with people with NO feedback! He ends up saying he isnt going to go through the auction, he signs off. I email, email, email, no response. I am about to fill out the deadbeat bidder, egay fee request, when I decide to track him down. I call him, his almost non-speaking wife answers and says she sent a check out an hour ago. Im like, thanks for telling me. (Keep in mind we dont accept checks). So Im like, screw it, and accept a check. LoL, It was more than that, but that is all I have energy to type, LoL!

For starters, that was *really* long. Second, I like the Egay. It connects me to sellers and products I wouldn't be able to get to otherwise. At the same time, I can sell stuff I can get in California to people who can't get to it in Minnesota or whatever...

Whenever an idiot like that comes about, I'm pretty quick to use the Non-Paying bidder stuff, to get a refund on my FVF and then relist it. True, it happens to me about 1 in every 20 auctions but the goodness that comes out Egaying kinda makes it worth it.

Bah, everyone jump on me if you like because I support that place but it's done more good than harm for me.

In all honesty, as a buyer, I probably would not want to deal with the original poster.

<< Ok, if you decide to use paypal with a credit card, please add the 2.2% + .30, in your case $2.28, for a total of $92.28. >>

Was this paypal CC surcharge mentioned in the auction listing? If not, it's technically breaking e-Bay rules. As a buyer, I would refuse to pay it.

<< For COD, i'm gonna have to charge you 100 dollars even, because of our in house handling fees and UPS fees. >>

$10 in COD fees? I can understand why CHF asked "how did $75 turn into $100?". Too many auctions end up costing too much because of expensive shipping/handling/whatever surcharges. Yes, there is a cost of doing business that may be passed on to the consumer, but excessive fees sour the deal.

I've been using e-Bay, as a buyer and a seller, for nearly 3 years. I have been remarkably happy with almost all transactions I've engaged in. I spell out fees up front and will not bid on auctions where there are a lot of unnecessary "fluff" fees. Some times, just to avoid hassles, I will be a little lenient with a buyer just to make sure the transaction goes through successfully and without undue frustration on my part. A few bucks here and there isn't gonna kill me.

Its 5 pounds. I shipped 4, one to NY ($13), another to AL($10), AZ ($10) and CA. The CA shipment cost me $13 thru UPS, and godforsaken zone pricing.

You think he's a horrible buyer???

You sound like a horrible seller.

1) Adding paypal fees is against ebay rules. You must not have put this in your item description or you would have got busted for it. Asking for extra money after the sale is not cool.

2)

<< For COD, i'm gonna have to charge you 100 dollars even, because of our in house handling fees >>

That is complete BS. If I was buying from someone and they said that I'd tell them to GFY. I don't care if you have to go to another "ship center" that's your problem.
