Why Galaxy S7 Edge is the best device ever

Really unimpressed by the S7 Edge. Edge feels too thin on the sides. While it is more compact in my hand compared to my 6 Plus the difference isn't night and day. It's just a little easier to reach the top of the screen.

From an in-hand feel I feel the HTC 10 is clearly the most impressive. But I have no love for a capacitive home button nor would I ever use a smartphone without a case, so what it feels and looks like case-less is irrelevant to me.

The G5 is just ugly in person and feels cheap in-hand.

While I have no desire to return to Android, if I were I'd opt for a Moto X Pure or Nexus 6P.

I like to handle all the major flagships because I'm a tech fan.

I don't know.

My stock S7E says this if I toggle it...

But I don't feel the need to root or run custom ROMs anymore so I've not explored further.

You only use that if your bootloader isn't locked. Useless if it's locked.

S7 International versions are generally unlocked. All QC Versions are locked AFAIK

So if you want an S7 with an unlocked bootloader they are available to everyone?

You know, I'm an (was?) apple fanboy, look at my post history. But this post is either bs or based on really limited time spent with the S7 edge. I had an iphone 6s plus and, let me tell you after my horrid s6 edge experience, I wanted to hate the s7 edge but it's just a better phone in most every metric. In fact, your post rings so false because both me and my wife and every review I've read seems to LOVE the ergonomics of the s7 edge, especially over the unweildy 6s plus (which has too much bezel and it just too wide in my hand). The iphone 6s plus always would strain my hand, no problem with the s7 edge.

Well it's kind of a conundrum: International version is bootloader unlockable, but uses Exynos, which is poorly documented for 3rd party development. OTOH, Snapdragon is very well documented and would otherwise be easier to develop for, except the bootloaders are all locked.

Guess I'll wait for the HTC 10 to go down in price next year or so because my current phone still works fine. Pretty tired of this upgrade treadmill.

That's true, Exynos versions are never the first choice if you want AOSP.

I made a general observation and then I stated my personal feelings about using a smartphone bare. Not that hard to follow.

The camera's great, but it's not magical. My low light images were full of noise. They were savable with a noise plugin, but of course detail was lost.

Methinks we have come to expect dSLR performance from these phone cams. I processed a night shot a friend took in Amsterdam on his iPhone 6. His auto exposure used an ISO of 2000, and the noise was just awful. I was able to get rid of most of it with PS plugins, but seriously, judging a phone too much by its camera is silly. If I plan on taking keepers I want to print and hang, they come out of my Nikon, not my phone (which, BTW, takes great shots for JPEG.)

Yes we can't expect the same performance, but I have gotten some good low light test shots by manually controlling the ISO and putting the phone in something to steady it. There is still a little noise in the shadows but that is easily removed. I use DXO on the images, and so far the results are impressive.

There have been several times that I wish I had a better camera with me and I didn't want to lug around my dSLR, so this fits the bill.

It has to be a smartphone first and a camera second, really -- it has to be good at checking Facebook before it takes a good photo, even if that last part is still very important.

I am just glad the iPod spam is gone. Who the hell wants an iPod in 2016?

I wish you could still get an iPod classic in 2016. It's smaller than a phone and the software isn't horrible like everything I've tried with Android.

And that's saying something because I hate iTunes but at least it's not a total pain to synch with my PC. I leave my iPod in my car usually and I can connect it directly to my car and control the iPod that way.

It's much better than using the Bluetooth on my phone to connect to my car and I'll keep using my 2004 iPod until it completely dies on me (though I'm considering getting whatever the last generation iPod Classic was from eBay)
