I forgot to mention that the camera always reverts to auto mode - I'd like to leave mine in pro mode so it's ready to take RAW files.

That is annoying yea, but it's a problem that the tiniest of fractions have. Btw, did you do the adoptable storage mod? It reads like you didn't which is why it's saving to system memory. This is a Google feature btw... adoptable storage instead of the way expendable was treated before. It's progress?

Thanks for that. I just did some reading about it and the disadvantages outweigh the advantages for me. If that card dies things get dicey.

I have the S7 Edge and was wondering with all the quick charging, how long the battery will last? Since this is a sealed phone, what happens when the battery goes dead? Also, would the life of the battery be better with slow or fast charging? Most batteries last longer when they are slow charged, but this is why I'm asking. How difficult is it to disassemble the S7 Edge to replace the battery?

I think in general, temperature and the extremes are bad for batteries. Complete discharge, completely charged and kept completely charged, and charging it while playing games (plenty of heat and current).

The quick charge in theory shouldn't do anything, but I wouldn't put it past cheap quick chargers to get the phone hot while charging.

I noticed that fast charging is on by default. I saw this in an article:

How to disable Quick Charge on the Galaxy S7 to prevent battery overheating and damage

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge support Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging, which means that the S7 phones charge up more quickly when using Samsung’s bundled cable and plug. However, if you usually charge your phone overnight, we’d recommend turning off fast charge to avoid any potential overheating issues or long-term battery damage.

Mine heats up a lot during fast charging so I disabled it because I keep my phone in a case, and we all know that heat is the enemy of electronics.

The fact that the battery can't be replaced doesn't really bother me. When my S3 started not holding a charge too well the only batteries I could find were on Ebay and were far from new and didn't hold a charge well either.

Wireless or plugged in?
I quick charge wirelessly and it doesn't get that hot. It just gets a lil warm.
I'm using the samsung quick charger that keeps the phone at an angle. Also you can hear the fan kicking in when you place the phone on the charger.

It was plugged in. It's fine with fast charge off.

Wrong, higher charge rates will always decrease cycle life, though the effect may not be significant.

i sort of agree.
S7E has been the best device i've used so far. But that's to be expected being a flagship device.

Camera > Apple
Screen > Apple
FingerPrint < Apple
Battery Life> Apple
Wireless Charging (Quick2.0)>Apple No wireless (Regular wireless charging sucks.)
EdgeScreen and Force Touch are both gimmicky so I'll nullify them.

You're absolutely wrong about the last one.
You can turn off the force touch if its gimmicky to you. Can you bent the edge screen back to flat ??

You're the dumbshit one that doesn't understand what he wrote.
Hes comparing a feature(3d touch) that can be changed to a feature(edge screen) that cannot be changed. Whats does that have to do with not buying one ??

I found my solution to the stock RAW file situation; the camera app. Camera FV-5 ($3.98) saves RAW .dng files to the SD card and the app stays in RAW mode by itself!

I took edge screen to mean the actual software features that try and take advantage of it, so it would be comparable to force touch.

I just do the two click solution with adoptable storage. Not worth 4 bucks since its only two clicks. But anyways, glad you found a fix for you.

My problem is that I do a lot of writing and deleting in the phone, and I've killed a Sandisk UHS SDXC card doing that for a couple of years. I'm not sure if internal storage is more reliable, but I'm not going to chance it with these big files. Also internal storage is faster, so I want the system to use that whenever possible (aside from images/video).

Also one article I read about adoptable storage said that if the card dies not only do you have to factory reset the phone (hopefully having a new card at the same time to replace it) but the phone could be unstable enough (before a reset) that you can't dial 911.

Nope. That's not true.

If you remove an adopted SD card, you'll lose data from migrated apps but the device itself works fine. It'll just bitch at you that the adopted SD card is missing.

^^This.

I've removed my sdcard, and it did not blow up. You just reinstall the apps etc and everything is fine again in my case since I ended up swapping cards. I backup my key apps and data once a month or so thus I'm not one of those that goes forever, then loses everything and freaks out. Also, there's so much available on the cloud these days, no reason not to have some form of backup.

Regarding wearing cards out, yea the memory ics dont last forever. If you think you are wearing a card out fast, don't think your internal memory isn't wearing out either. I'd rather have the sdcard die than wear the internal memory needlessly by writing massive raw files, something I doubt they intended the phone to go thru. Remember, writes are most costly on the life of the memory ic.

After seeing the HTC 10, and how utterly unserviceable HTC are still building their phones, I'm not so sure I'm interested in the HTC Nexus phones any more.

I'd rather have a well-designed phone you can't easily repair than a so-so design that's easy to fix. Not that you can't have both design and serviceability, but a good design will make you happy every day versus the prospect of maybe, one day replacing the battery or repairing the screen.

Really unimpressed by the S7 Edge. Edge feels too thin on the sides. While it is more compact in my hand compared to my 6 Plus the difference isn't night and day. It's just a little easier to reach the top of the screen.

From an in-hand feel I feel the HTC 10 is clearly the most impressive. But I have no love for a capacitive home button nor would I ever use a smartphone without a case, so what it feels and looks like case-less is irrelevant to me.

The G5 is just ugly in person and feels cheap in-hand.

While I have no desire to return to Android, if I were I'd opt for a Moto X Pure or Nexus 6P.
