I was so puzzle as to why gamer gone into extreme. V.high cpu and gpu even duo 980tisli. Going to ultra (v.high ) setting? Why they can't accept med-high gameplay?

I like eye-candy. If I'm playing competitive MP (BF4 for instance); everything goes to low minus items that help with target id

More eye candy yes, not always more realism per se, not all games strive for realism for example TF2 is a cartoony game. However the fidelity and the accuracy of the effects, textures and models all tend to be increased with high or ultra settings.

Sometimes it's not just about graphical fidelity but sometimes it can be about increasing the amount of entities in the game world, for example GTA5 you can increase the number of pedestrians and the amount of traffic on the roads, so the quality is the same but the quantity is higher.

The lower settings are available for people with slow or old PCs who cannot run max settings, lower quality graphics run faster and are more suitable for these kinds of computers.

real gamers fps games use low settings and off.
even with such gear.

This. Extra setting just add visual clutter than makes it harder to see most of the time. The extra power is so you can run 144fps and never drop below your display refresh rate.

Depends entirely on the person & the game. Some people demand everything be maxed out and are willing to buy high end. Others really don't care above a certain baseline and can happily game on a cheap 750Ti. Many of us in between don't max everything out on Ultra but instead prefer "High" based custom settings simply out of preference (I personally find chromatic aberration, motion blur, excessive DOF, vignetting, film grain, etc, more ugly and less realistic than the "clean" look of older games and turn them off anyway regardless of performance).

Same with multiplayer - some will max out eye candy, others will turn down settings to "declutter" the view. Eg, in fast paced shooters it's sometimes faster to spot the enemy on lower GFX settings as the human eye is naturally automatically drawn to movement, and if Ultra vs Low means fewer swaying trees, less dense foliage or shorter grass draw distance, etc, then for many it can be faster to acquire the enemy when there's less environmental movement.

I strive for 60+fps or as close as possible if and when the game can allow it without cpu limitations,i lower the settings i need and make it work with my 2gb gtx770.So far no issues with vram and the settings are good enough.

Extreme hardware is nice and having even owned a gtx970,the games i played i could simply lower Textures from Ultra to Very High in some games and kill MSAA and pretty much have about the same performance on the 770 without a world of difference with quality.

^ this, competitive gamers sets everything as low as possible to make targets easier to spot plus getting the most FPS out of it (quicker response).

for me its a OCD. Luckily my OCD doesn't require high FPS I just need it to be playable with no slowdown. If I can't run it on ultra at my monitors native resolution it goes on the backburner until I can.

i dont think u ever played on Extreme Settings @ 60fps+ hence why ur asking this question.

Its like a bad addiction.
Once u seen and played it... its very difficult to go back.

Its like people who live by 120hz monitors vs 60hz...
Once they experienced it, they also have a hard time going back.

I've got a bit of that. I just want the best experience I can get. When I play a game that challenges my setup, I always wonder what the maxed out experience would be like. Sure, I can turn up the graphics and see a reduced framerate version of maxed out, but I'll always want to know what that will feel like at 60fps. Of course as soon as I upgrade, something will be released that challenges my new setup, but I can still go back to older games that used to chug on my rig and see them in all their glory.

It just bothers me that I could be getting more out of a game. It feels good to have finally thrown enough hardware at the problem to make it perfect. It's sort of a "The game tried hard to not run perfectly, but I brute forced that mfer till it couldn't do anything else" kind of feeling. It's just satisfying.
