What kills it is the reaction people have to blue tooth douches walking around with that stupid little ear piece in. So we're going to go and expand the douche-gear and cover the whole face. "No, Glass, fuck you."

Google glass is perfect for sport's referees.

Till the ball or player accidentally beams them in the face?

I seen what abuse I put my glasses through at times. And even went swimming with them. I don't think I would want a delicate piece of electronics as glasses.

I guess I tend to agree with the article, although who knows if the most negative social reactions would actually manifest themselves. Anyway, the mass market isn't ready for these things yet, or even close to ready.

I predict they'll add some sort of visible indicator to the next version, so that when someone is capturing video or audio you will be able to tell.

Arrows on your windshield is infinitely safer than having to look down for the same thing. That's why we've had newer cars with HUDs that display on the windshield. Not having to take your eyes off the road.

Thus the reason for voices.

All that needs to happen is someone crack it so you can play little games like asteroids or space invaders on your windshield.

They actually have that. The prism display lights up red when video is being recorded.

Think about what a huge step this would be with navigation systems. It could overlay arrows on top of what you're viewing, when a turn was coming up. No more annoying voice, "in seven tenths of a mile, turn right.... in 500 feet, turn right... in 100 feet, turn right... turn right now." Instead, you just follow the arrow.

^^^ prior art on the concept.

They already have this. Its called a heads up display on your windshield. BMWs have it as an option... I've had it on a loaner car and its a nice feature JD you have nav . Unlike Google glass you don't have to wear goofy looking glasses to have it.

Hell I wear contacts. Because I don't want to wear glasses. Most people don't want to have glasses on unless they are shades in the sun or need them for seeing. That is the reason. Google glass will fail. Its going to be not worth wearing.

I'd like google glasses for sporting events. Being able to see what the quarterback is actually seeing would be sweet - you might even be able to have some gizmo that records where their eyes are looking and highlights that area.

These seem like they would be great for training/education and the like, and for letting me know which random people I meet are pretentious lemmings without having to talk to them first.

I'd say give them to cops to help keep them accountable, but LOL we all know that will never happen.

Most people don't need hot water or electricity either.

I'm pretty sure it's indispensable for most people to be able to receive phone calls without having to travel home.

And I don't know how this turned into a discussion of necessities.

Some people are so short sighted...

The applications from this device will make it into a contact lens someday. And I for one intend to be a cyborg overlord someday. Fear me, puny non-augmented humans!

at 1500 they aren't meant to be consumer devices.

But after Glass is in the world for a few years, they will figure out what works, what doesnt, what kind of apps would be handy, which ones are a waste, what kind of UI works best, etc.

2nd or 3rd generation versions could be smash hits though.

This, and costs will fall substantially.

As a network manager I wouldn't mind wearing them at work and having a feed or notification configuration that notifies me of issues in real-time.

About this, I can see the professional uses for this product, but essentially zero consumer use.

If I had more liquid $ I'd buy a pair. These will probably sell out because I doubt google is producing millions and millions of them. I'd guess the initial production will be in the low to mid 6 figures.

Being able to take a camera out with you and take pictures by looking at something and saying a couple words is worth $1,500 to a lot of people on planet Earth. As a tourist gadget alone, it is worth it. All the rich asian tourists walking through the Versailles are gonna have 'em.

Awesome for tourists as well, you could have all the interesting locations highlighted with a brief history, or have preprogrammed "tourist trails" with commentary.

^^^ free to use as long as I get a free pair.

dude, vacation. Exactly. I would use the hell out of these while on vacation. Visiting a foreign city. Going hiking. Whatever... they could be very useful for that. and $1500 is expensive, but hardly to high that nobody would buy them. For something this different/new, I think a lot of people would be willing to drop some coin. People used to pay 500+ for mid level digital camera.s $1000+ for decent video cameras.

U guys have to see the potential of this thing:
- for sales people or just for networking, you never forget a person's name you met at a party because u always see his name and also his short bio on the gg
- you never get lost, walking or driving
- you live blog your whole life... U need proof of an accident in front of you, just reply
- this thing will have major impact on occupation such as: delivery jobs, law enforcement, troops, waitressing, pilots, etc
