Looking at that, "race relations" didn't drop until more recently with Tayvon Martin and especially Michael Brown. You know, two standout pillars of society. Seems people rallying around violent attempted murderers doesn't settle well.

So then, how does this all connect to Obama? Why does he — one president in 43 — remain so central to so many of our assessments of race relations?

Ultimately the answer might lie in Obama's own words. In 2004, when Obama was just a Senate candidate from Illinois delivering the Democratic Convention keynote speech, he described an America in which many people want very much to believe.

"There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America," he said.

That ideal, it seems, has been very difficult to turn into a reality.

Let me ask you this honestly. Do you think the fact that he is a, as you say, a black President contributed to more or less people becoming more overt in their racism in the last 7 years?

Also now that everyone has a camera on them at all times have we been able to witness more or less acts of institutional racism?

Have people, particularly on the right side of the political spectrum, been claiming racism doesn't exist more or less in the last ten years stifling any honest discussion on the topic?

I'm asking this honestly if you have noticed anything at all that would be described as wide spread racism towards the leader of your country?

Look at the Black Lives Matter movement for example. Instead of all the horrible shit that racists do being hidden /in the closet, the dirty laundry instead is on display for all to see.

It is not that it has happened since Barry - it is that it has always been this way.

People didn't start stick with their own on the day Barry got into the Oval office.

Bottom line, you can't pin this on Obama. This is more about correlation than causation. Similarly to employment numbers - he can't take credit for them (good and bad - or in the case of his critics; bad, but never good).

what i meant was, as others above have pointed out, people recording people has been on a meteoric rise since the advent of cheap recording equipment.

had we had all the same tech years ago i'm sure the number would never been that high.

so as i said this is a survey and people only know what they are shown/told. so the spike around 2009 would never have existed.

Please quit with the "murder" bullshit. They are being shot because of their shit lifestyle that final caught up to them. Whites are being shot as well, and I dare say the last one didn't even have a rap sheet. No uproar, no protesting, and DEFINITELY no rioting and burning down communities. You act like that, and people will create a barrier between themselves and a pattern they see. It's as simple as that. The black community has a HUGE cultural problem that is creating these problem. Disrespect for all, ALWAYS placing the blame on others, and shutting down other black people that TRY to lead them in the right direction. This is a black problem, not a white, Asian or any other races problem.

All BLM is doing is creating MORE racism because ALL races see it for what it is, the black community not wanting to take responsibility for their actions. And the black people that speak out against this BS are called "coons, house niggas" and whatever other derogatory name to try and stifle them. I garantee you, BLM is creating a MUCH larger racial devide despite what the agenda driven media is making it out to be. People have learned NOT to say anything in fear of being called a "racist."
