Why hasn't moden technology provided us with house air ships?

We have house boats, why not house air ships? If the Germans of the 1920s and 30s have taught us anything it's the ability to create giant air ships. With todays technology I feel it's very much possible to have house air ships that are not only capable of long flights, but are safer, reliable, practical, and safer. With modern materials such as carbon fiber, titanium, kevlar, wood, and the many derivatives of steel there should be no question towards the feasibility of this project. Safer gases will not only make it impervious to disaster, but will also make it safer. Advancements in electronics make it possible to regulate all functions in an air house and provide a worry free experience. The sooner we start making house air ships the sooner they will become cheap enough for everybody to own. We can do it!

Well, I think it's because mr. Moden has been lazy.

And...y'know...fire.

holy crap dude, the price on these would be crazy. Maybe if there were hot air balloon types but still. How would you fuel them, what would keep them from crashing into one another. If they ran out of fuel what would stop them from plummeting the earth? What would you have to do for insurance? How do you get down from one and back up? How would you regulate it with all the current air traffic? I think these are very valid points.

Technological advancements in the building process would eventually make materials cheaper as more house air ships are built.

Initially it would be so high the wealty could only afford it. As time passes and people realise how safe a house air ship is the rates will be more affordable.

Time limited air lots assigned by the government regulated air house association.

also valid points...

Food will be purchased and stocked just as you would a normal house. Water will be stocked and recycled after use. That will also take care of the sanitation aspect.

Nah. Just keep them at a different regulated altitude then it wouldn't be a problem.

Technology has more important things to worry about. There's your answer. Nothing more to see here.

What could be more important than this? You sir have revoked your house air ship owning privileges.

Joe Sixpack has no business having stabilizer rockets on his floating house.

What about pizza delivery?

Sorry, but that just cracked me up.

The problem lies with getting to and from the "house". How do you get to and from for work? What about kids in school?

lets take a 350k house...now add all these additions to it to make it fly..we are talking in the millions. Will bill gates want to spend 2million on a house thats worth 100k?

and again where is the fuel coming from? Where is it being stored? if its being stored on board what kind of liability is there if theres an explosion?

then how would you navigate where it falls? Its a giant house..can't really guide it without fuel

True but this would be a LONG way out.

That's just the kind of defeatist attitude that keeps us from having house air ships.

The use of a civilian version of the predator drone modified to fetch gound based goods and return back to it's docking station on it's own.

Air houses are so 1960s. The new goal is space stations. Just waiting for the space elevator thing from the other thread to come through.

how do you get back up into your House air ship? I go grocery shopping and pick up my groceries. Do i have to throw them 100's of feet in the air onto my porch or is there a really long rope i have to use?
