Why haven't 980ti prices droppedmore ?

Why havent the prices of 980ti dropped more than they have? They are only about $20 cheaper than a GTX 1080.... Why would anyone buy a 980ti over a 1080 for only $20 less?

$409 for an EVGA Classified, brand new from Newegg. Probably will see other sales soon, I think retailers were waiting for the 1070/1080 to be out in full force.

1. 1070 and 1080 are out of stock everywhere.

2. If inventory of current Maxwell cards aren't big, there's no point to price drop massively. You would only do so if there's a lot of stock to clear and you want it cleared quickly.

Availability, and because they aren't as slow compared to the 1070 and 1080 as everyone thought, in fact, when OC'd they're substantially faster than the 1070 and nearly as fast as a 1080, within 7-10% in most games.

Most of them are now at 500€ here, same price as 1070. But almost anywhere are still at 700-750€.

The 1080 doesn't really make a ton of sense as a product either. For the 99% that are still on 1080p 60hz, there is basically no reason to buy a 1080.

There are new EVGA 980TIs going for $410 on newegg right now. I'd still rather wait for a 1070 though.

the most obvious people are suckers. They wont drop the price till people quit buying them. As some stated there is always a rush to grab new tech, once sales drop off , prices will drop.

Definitely tempting to make some consider already 980 Ti owners consider SLI I would think.

Same thing happened with the 780 Ti... went way under the price of the 980, but in that case, the 980 was faster. The 1070 at $450 is priced just a bit too high to compete with the closeout deals we'll be seeing if this MSI Golden Edition is any indication.

Even cheaper. And you can find some good deals for used cards. I bought a Gigabyte gtx 980 ti g1 gaming for 410 EUR (compare to gtx 1070 for 470 - 500 EUR) with more than 2 years warranty left.

Heh, so much for some people saying prices wouldn't drop. Exactly why I didn't recommend biting on used Tis for around $400.

Anyway, that's a fair price for a new 980 Ti. Makes the current $420+ 1070 offerings overpriced. Great buy if you want something to tide you over until the 1080 Ti.

It would have been, but Nvidia is sponsoring games that can't be maxed without 8gb Vram. I wonder why they would do that? Anyway, 1070 makes sense because with the new artificial Vram requirements, the 980ti will quickly become a 1080p/medium settings card.

A $600 - $700 USD graphics card certainly isn't being targeted at the 1080p 60Hz crown.

Because Nvidia and their AIB partners don't train user to wait for a fire sale by properly managing stock levels and MSRP. They cut off production of the 980Ti and let it ease out of the sales channel.

Do the opposite and you'll have part of what killed Windows Phone. It became common knowledge that a $600 device would soon be $300, so guess what? No one was knocking down the door on release day.

If your plan would be to step-up, you might want to double check with EVGA if that ebay card is eligible. Newegg is an authorized online retailer, but I'm not sure if their ebay store is. Newegg is only offering that deal through ebay, and not newegg.com.

You are talking about honest games. What about the new mirror's edge? That's not an honest game. Its a game designed to use 8gb Vram because that's what Nvidia's new cards have.

I'm not seeing price cuts of much of anything. Even gtx 970's are around $300 in most channels. Look hard enough and you might find one on newegg for $250 with rebates and shit. By and large though new cards aren't having much of any impact on any card prices at all. You really have to dig to find something really good.
