So you complain about things you know how to fix? That's stupid.

Unbelievably stupid indeed, YOU.

@Berryracer: As I said on the other Win 10 topic, I was writing down all the profanity deleted Win 10 annoyances, but then removed it. A profanity deleted OS like this doesn't need any reasonable pointing outs. But I appreciate that you took the time.

So my list is simple,
1- P, 2- U, 3- R, 4- E, 5- *, 6- *, 7- *, 8-*.

There.

Please. No personal attacks and no profanity.

Thank you chief! At least there are some people who can see the big picture.

That's what I did too, but someone might prefer a mouse that doesn't do it natively and wish to OC it themselves.

Fair enough. I'm a tinkerer to the core, but a mouse just doesn't seem worth my time. Way too many other projects.

Synthetic benchmarks. A pretty number with minimal real life bearing.

Plus what if the game sucks? What if its buggy as hell? What if its lumbered with DRM or they decide to release 50% of it and the rest as DLC? FPS is one of the last concerns for making a decent game these days. Its important, but theres a bunch of stuff thats more important.

.

Well I'll say it now. You are wrong.

So, anyone who disagrees with your opinion "can't" see the big picture then.

Right.
Not at all, but some of you here seem to be offended by me stating why I don't like it which are all facts.

Give me Windows 10 with no forced driver updates, which is the number one reason I am not installing it, and I can figure the rest, I know how to turn off everything for privacy and block telemetry data, I know how to hack the registry and force register the Windows Photo Viewer, I can get around most of the quirks, but the driver thing.......sigh.....

LOL any time dude! There will always be people who see the bigger picture, but what is astonishing is the number of people (?) who deny facts!

Darn! Shame! Meh!!

If you look around & listen enough, you will understand why this is happening. (It really came home during the Windows 10 Demo at Fry’s.) What has been said by the Win 10 representatives is "that all the user needs to do is click or tap on the information that Windows is presenting the user."

Effectively what is going on is an attempt at massive social engineering. Mainly, nobody need or should think anything. Just look at what is being presented (ideally mostly from the system/networks) and interact with it (ie, any of its pre-scripted limited available choices) via “click/tap”.

I know this is a bit long, but do me a favor guys and read it till the end, this is exactly how I feel about the new Start Menu and the new search feature that searches all over the web..... I never read long articles but this one is an exception......very well written.....

The Start Menu Should Be Sacred (But It’s Still a Disaster in Windows 10)

Wow, what a useless article. Here is the summary: I want Windows 7 start menu.

Install Classic shell and stop with all the whining (or just stay on Windows 7).

Windows 7 Start Menu SUCKS. It is ugly, disorganized, takes forever to make look decent. Win 10 start menu is very convenient, I get some quick info when I open it, looks nice and is easy to customize how I want. The ONLY criticism I have is that it would be nice to be able to organize the app menu more.

This has been building a long time, and it's born of honest observations of the average user. That's a nice way of saying people are dumb and lazy. The whole tags and search and feeds and all that completely caters to people with zero organizational skills or attention spans. They download a program and can't find it, they take or upload pics and can't find them, their music collection is a horrific jumble, they don't understand file structure, etc, etc, etc. All the modern UI stuff in all the current OS's, windows, android, all of it, is moving to cater to the lowest common denominator. I first really noticed with music files, you can toss every file you have in one folder, or a hundred folders, and the metadata will sort it out(more or less). The omnisearch bit is more of the same, you type a vague suggestion of what you want and it finds it(or it finds what the highest bidder wants you to find) instead of one having to be involved and educated enough to know where it is. I get it, it's not all bad, I understand why and I don't have a better solution that's practical (telling people to do better isn't practical), but I still don't much like it. It feels lazy. The next generation will expect it and consider having to spend more than a few seconds to start any task or find any data a burden. I'm glad there are still "classic" start menu's and such, and still a file browser.

Very well written article! Thanks for sharing this.

I almost forgot how awesome the Start Menu from Windows 95 was (with the nice one narrow column). This is one of the many reasons why I've been using Puppy Linux distros for the last few years. Default is very similar to the 95 start menu except even more convenient because all the programs are only one-level deep:

Isn't the entire point of computers automation? Why not bust out your abacus and calculate that way instead of using electronics if this is for the lazy?

Because moderation is healthy imo. So is involved, critical thinking and understanding what you're doing and how instead of it just happening. It's why we teach kids a lot of things we do. They don't need it, but they need it to be well rounded and functional human beings. Easy and fun is fine, I myself don't hate it all and look forward to when I can have a more conversational experience using voice control even. But at the rate things are going the techs among us are going to be waxing seriously sentimental over win10 in another decade.

Meh. I've been using computers since the DOS era, and I think Windows 10 is a nice step forward from Win 7 (aside from the invasive privacy settings).

I agree. For the most part if flows and looks crisp. The privacy issues are fixed with settings and I've been monitoring my network and I'm happy with what I'm seeing.
