They need the cheap labor to stay competitive. I'm not trying to defend them, but if you were running the company you'd do the same thing. But this is a whole other argument than what I was getting at. You are one of the very few on this forum who owns an american vehicle. Put a poll up, "Do you own american or japanese?" Guarrantee you Japanese will be most of the votes. The demographic that Anandtech caters to is computer industry oriented. Not many computer geeks work on their own cars, therefore to reduce repair costs they buy reliable cars, ie: Japanese. This is my point.

Sorry, didn't realize Ford was so near and dear to your heart
I didn't single out any particular American car company anyway, you did.
What choice do they have? WHAT CHOICE DO THEY HAVE? You've got to be kidding me.... If the Japanese can employ American workers to build their cars over here, why can't we? Explain that one to me.

For one, the Japanese companies with plants here don't have to deal with the UAW union thugs. No Labor Unions=lower labor costs. Plus by building the cars here they don't have to pay the import taxes.

I'm glad I've only owned 1 GM vehicle in my lifetime. It was a 1975 Pontiac. I'd never buy another GM vehicle though.

I started with a 1969 3/4 ton and now I have a 1999 Silverado that has put up with Towing, 4x4'n, Racing and daily driving with a non fctory supercharger on it for over 70,000 miles now and no problems

I'm so bummed I own one too

You can't even compare GMs cars to their trucks. They're in completely different leagues. GM's cars are teh suck, while their trucks are actually worth something.

I know more than a few GM truck owners who would vehemently disagree with you on this one.

Their cars are sh!t and their trucks are sh!t. Really now, why would the trucks be any different than their cars?

And I know far more GM truck owners that love their vehicles than don't, so what's your point? Besides, the resale values speak for themselves. GM trucks have the highest resale values of any trucks, period. If they suck so bad, why are they worth more than their counterparts?
I'm not going to sit here and debate the merits of GM vehicles with anyone. I'm not a GM fan at all. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean they suck ass, though. Once again, GM trucks are nothing like their cars. Their cars are hum-drum assembly line vehicles with nothing unique about them. Their trucks are made for professionals. You can't make a sh!tty product for people that use and abuse it every day, they'll tear it to pieces.

My thunderbird v8 almost idles at 80mph, no engine noise, no road turbulance (Cooper Cobra tires), and still has plenty of power for reaching the electronically limited top speed of 115.

I forget what my probe and sts do at 80...

Smooth as butter up to 100, 110 small vibration, 115 more noticeable vibration. 115 was as fast as I took it, but it had more in it. Just started driving the car and I didn't know the handling that well yet, so I figured better to be safe. Man is it quick though, love that 200hp. And it sticks the curves like I can't believe. Quite an upgrade from the ol' 91 Accord Se. Can't wait to shut down some rice boys with it. As for Skoorbie's Maxima? Haha I think a 'Tour SVT would shut him down. It'd be close, but the SVT is way lighter than a Maxima.

I have a 2k3 Maxima SE that'll probably shut you down. What does the SVT Contour do in the 1/4?

I'd rather have an SVT Mustang personally.

Mmm, '04 Mystichrome Cobra with metamorphic "mystichrome" paint and color-change leather interior to match *drool* and a 12.7-13.2 quarter *drool*

Plus GM makes sure their trucks do well as they are their bread and butter, that F150 selling more then any other full size is just for Zealots like you who buy into marketing, the Sierra and Silverado SAME THING have outsold the F150 since 1999.

I'd love to see you toss a double axel onto whatever you drive and see how long it lasts.

it's obvious if I have made a stock engine in my truck run what would be a 13.7 second 1/4 mile at Sealevel and race it for 3 seasons it's putting up with quite abit also

LAUST, I'M GONNA CALL YOU OUT

well, you cannot use n/a altitude conversion factors for boosted vehicles. It is too optimistic. see here

Based on this conversion, your truck would run 14.5 or so at sealevel, not 13.7.

There is more to altitude then just some numbers, and Mass Air Flows only really help to a certain extent. You have to mess with Fuel more, timing, boost. it takes quite abit.

CORRECTION: It was 90mph @ 4000rpm. 80mph is 3400rpm . Reconfirmed on my commute home.

mine does 75mph at 3k rpm. Turn to the left with hands off the wheel.
