He has every right not to be happy with ATI. Where he went wrong was in his statement he posted that ATI sux because of this and that, so matter of factly. The truth is ATI has their faults just like any other manufacturer. I have at times recieved poor customer support from them and at other times they are golden. I remember when I bought my first Radeon card almost two years ago from them, my fan died after about two weeks of use and after I called them they agreed to send me a new one. I didn't recieve a fan but a totally new radeon vivo 6 days later so I sent them back my radeon (non vivo) back in return.

I had no complaints

Yeah, I stopped buying anything that only has a good price after rebates. It's not worth the hassle.

Not talking about that at all..

Complaints are about the rebate process, and the TV wonder PCI, and ATI support... I admit ATI has suffient support for drivers for the Radeon line, but that is really it.

Redshirt , if your points are indeed real , then I will have to agree with you that ATI sucks. However, I dont think that toll free number is that big of a deal.

I hope that ATI will get their acts together because I will buy the radeon9500

Oh yeah, why do even big companies cheat in rebate ? Sega never gave me my $100 rebate.

I think it is a big deal, cause I don't want to spend money to talk to them about the money that they owe me that I should have had months ago.

Your topic is "Why ATI Sucks". You haven't given US any reason to think so.

Your topic - as trivial as it is - SHOULD be, "Why I think ATI sucks (and I am trying to get attention for myself on a forum because I am bored and just want to rant)."

Done. I agree with the first half, but put the second half on there just to humor you. I posted this after spending 2 hours today on the phone with 3 different outfits about finding my rebate... I wasn't trying to draw attention to myself, I was trying to vent, as I cannot get into contact with anyone with a brain from ATI.

Well, thank-you . . . Actually most unexpected . . . I guess I've been "humoured".

Oh, I get it now, you want to talk with someone who uses their brain in ATI Customer Servce. . . . That's pretty easy . . . Tuesday morning call ATI CS (DON'T call on Mondays . . . never on Mondays OR Fridays!!!). You see, you made your first big mistake by calling on a Friday - the smart people have figured out how to take the day off.

Now get their name (and address them by name while you talk to them). Tell them you are a customer who has been having a problem with ATI that isn't getting resolved. Tell them you need a SUPERVISOR. Be extra polite to the supervisor (don't forget to write down their name) and briefly state your problem with the rebate (you already wrote it out). Tell the super you are PAYING for the call (international) and perhaps they could call you back right away. Tell them you are a member of a 80,000 member hardware forum that is following your case.

Good luck

EDIT: Of course you were trying to get "attention" . . . that's why you posted the controversial topic title. However, you mean you were not trying to get negative attention . . . we all misunderstood you . . . It was a 'cry for help' (frustration because you weren't getting satisfaction).

Well, any way - I have dealt with many rebate companies (successfully so far) and I hope you get it soon. Remind them the " 'contract' on your rebate receipt says 6-10 weeks" (or whatever it says).

This really should been posted in OT.

I will try that.... I wish I remembered if my cell phone includes calls to Canada. I'm guessing not. I just don't like the idea paying for the call, even if it for a brief moment. It just shows that ATI does not think this sort of thing is important.

Edit: I'm not the only one that has this problem, almost everyone who is waiting for a rebate is still waiting. ATI issued a DELAY, and they won't tell me a reason. Best Buy did connect me with ATI, with them paying the bill. That was very nice of them. I have a friend who also bought a 8500 at the same time I did, as it was an EXCELLENT deal at the time (140 for a retail 8500 after rebate over 4 months ago). We both have gotton mulitple run arounds with this rebate that was supposed to take 6-8 weeks.

And there are others, like here that are fed up.

And then there is my whole TV Wonder PCI deal. Even if they didn't produce the card anymore and didn't support XP (but they are still making them, and they are trying to support XP), the tuner in 2k was very buggy. Whenever I captured, or watched TV, my computer would not shut down, and I would also get Multimedia Center errors, the card's drivers have always been poor. Almost 1 year after XP has been released, ATI's premeire TV card turner is still buggy at best in XP. People are installing the new drivers and not even getting sound. That is pathetic.

The ONLY thing ATI has going for it, support wise, is the Radeon lineup.

Oh THAT deal (yes, this REALLY belongs in OT).

Well, I guess ATI'S lawyers figured there was a way to delay your rebate further. I think their whole future in on the line with their Radeon line-up and they are spending BIG bucks to make it successful. Do you know where I think your rebate money is?

Personally, I would let it go for another month. E-mail them and write if you want to complain but don't waste money on the phone. You'll get your money eventually. Or you could join the Ferengi of the thread and at GreedyWallet to get a class action suit against ATI . . .

And as for your ATI "wonder" card . . . weren't you WARNED in the Hot Deals thread it was KNOWN to have "issues".

I wanted a TV card, and made the very unfortunate choice of ATI, thinking that they could do something correct. This was years ago, and I have NEVER been happy with it. I wasn't even a member of Anandtech forums (I believe) when I got that card.

Why is ATI holding the money?!? They know they have to send it out EVENTUALLY. I really dislike their company, or the people in charge of these things.

Well, RedShirt, I have been an ATI fan for years. I guess I've sold nearly 200 of their cards. I especially like the Radeon series. I must agree wholeheartedly with the comments you made though. They have been issues I have had to deal with as well. You certainly did draw some attention to yourself with this post, too bad you've drawn some rather lame personal stabs too.

This post proves why I don't visit AT forums much...

If I wanted to talk to @$$holes (The people flaming RedShirt) this is the place I would go...

As far as RedShirt goes... I would be extremely pissed off in his situation... And for you guys to canabolize him is just plain lame.

*Anybody who doesn't think the ATI TV Wonder doesn't suck...either hasn't used one, or doesn't know what its like to use a TV card that works well.
*Anybody who purchases a TV Wonder and believes it will work flawlessly, hasn't done much research.

I have a TV Wonder under WinXP and I haven't had a single problem other than the issue where the image is scrambled unless you double click the icon to open it up... and that issue has been fixed with MMC 7.6 so I'm happy with it.

Its just too bad I can't use it to its fullest extent cuz I'm hooked up to a satellite system.. I brought my computer over to a friends.. hooked it up to his regular cable and it was 10x better looking

Bitch Bitch Bitch. You made the mistake of buying the TV card RedShirt, if you were never happy with it you should have returned it and got a different brand. Mail In Rebates rarely go well, and a toll free number is nothing but a benefit. In the end you let yourself get shafted, and the best thing you can do is not support them, and let people know that the specific device you have is crap in Windows XP. There are plenty of other devices that STILL have problems in windows XP, so I dont see that as a legitimate argument, ATI is working double time on the parts THAT MAKE THEM MONEY, obviously selling TV tuners is not something that will keep them in buisness. Asking tech support where your rebate is?, how retarted is that? Sure a simple "do you have any info. on the rebate" question is within line, but how is a TECH suppose to know how ATI is managing their money? Comparing the 8500 to a GF4 Ti4200 is just plain stupid, considering the GF4 came out a full year after the 8500 obviously some tweaking and enhanced features for speed benefits were added.

Your post sucks RedShirt, if your so pissed go out and bash the frikin TV tuner with a bat and never speak of ATI again. Like anyone gives a sh*t about your unfortunate computer experience, IT HAPPENS. There are plenty of good ATI products THAT WORK out there and I'm damn happy with my 8500. ATI dose not suck RedShirt, YOU suck for being such an ass about such a minor incident. Waaaaaa, I want my 50 dollars, the 8500 isn't fast enough, my TV card dosen't work and my phone bill is a dollar more expensive than last months phone bill. I say you go and have that convo with a monkey, it would do you good, maybe you'll learn something about the human race. Sometimes you get shafted RedShirt, deal with it. Like rbV5 pointed out, do your research before you throw your money down.

This is pathetic. Bdog, your logic is kindergarten-ish along with your grammar and spelling.

Whether the ATI fanatics believe it or not, one card does not make a company worth a damn. Yes, ATI has worked very hard on a specific set of drivers for their Radeon Lineup. While the Radeon line continues to improve, at the same time ATI has also continued with tradition, and neglected other products. For Example, my laptop has a Mobility M1 video chip. ATI's drivers for this chip are horrid at best. I have to use a third party hacked driver to even try to get Opengl to run stably. For Details visit here.

edit: Bottom Line, ATI IS improving. The 9700 is definitely a step in the right direction. But, until ATI starts supporting ALL of their products, even aging products, they still have a way to go.

Has anybody else noticed that this thread had been dead for nearly six weeks before ArchAngel ressurected it and that redshirt is probably long gone by now?
