Everything in my last post I would consider "good things" you know, sonar having won the battle of the Atlantic and all. Yeah, radio, T.V. the lightbulb, insulin, JAVA, pacemaker...PFff....all crap....I'm sure....oh yeah, we invented (standard) TIME!
Don't forget BEAVER TAILS! The best invention to come from Canada yet. If you haven't had one in the market in Ottawa, you've never had one...or on the Canal during winderlude...yeah, baby yeah!

you can buy a card from VisionTek and know you get GREAT support.

You do realize that visiontek just went bankrupt, right? That lifetime warranty that you just bought turned into a two week warranty and no 800#...no # of any kind. At least ATI is huge and should be around to support your product next week....

Whoa. This thread was started a month and a half ago. When I started it, VisonTek did have great support, at the time... Anyways, that is really besides the point.

I have finally received my rebate, but my friend who bought the card at the same store as me and sent in his rebate at the same time has not received his. I called about my rebate at least 6 times, probably more, about my rebate and I think since I hounded them so much I finally got it.

bdog231, your post is terrible. I guess you are happy with products that do not preform well, good for you. When I buy something, I expect it to work. Call me crazy, but that is how I think. And your remark about me calling ATI tech support is terrible. I was told to call them by wheresmyrebate.com as their job was done and ATI was holding the rebates and not sending them out. I guess if I had unlimited money, as you must have, I would have smashed my TV Wonder by now and purchased a different card, but since I am a college student, I guess I'll have to wait and see if someday my card will work as advertised. You do know that they are still producing TV wonders, and they have no non-beta drivers that work correctly in XP? XP is almost a year old now, and just because other companies may not have drivers working in XP for their crap products does not mean that it is OK for ATI to have terrible drivers. I guess you would jump off a cliff if everyone else was.

Anyways, it amazes me when people try to argue that products that do not work correctly are fine, and call you retarded for wanting them to work as advertised.

Edit: And I never said I disliked my Radeon 8500. I really like it, I just hate the company that stands behind it.

Edit2: When I bought my TV Wonder I was running windows 98, it is older hardware and I bought it based on a few reviews. I really liked the idea of watching TV on your desktop (the actual background of your desktop is the TV). It worked fine in Windows 9x, but not well in any NT based OS. It took them a long time to get drivers out for 2k that worked, and now the same thing is happening with XP, which is a consumer OS that is on almost every new computer sold.... and ATI is still making the cards, don't you think they should have non-beta drivers for XP almost a year after it has been released? And please, no one make the argument that because the hardware is older, it doesn't matter if it works or not, that is pure BS because they are still making these cards to this day.

Why are you bashing ATI. They are doing a lot better! Plus even ATI techs replyed to people's posts saying there would be new drivers really soon!!! Now thats what i call cool! Plus soon the new ATI card will be out!! Plus the R300 will just improve on speed with the drivers! The drivers already are very good. I bet just as good as nvidia drivers! If not better! Go ATI! Go ATI! Go! Go ATI! Go ATI! Go!!!!!

You know, after reading all this, I've discovered you really can't beat the Radeon AIW 8500DV. The only limitation of it is you can't have dual display (CRTs), you can have 1 CRT and 1 monitor, but not 2 CRTs like the regular Radeon 8500. I was trying to find a work around by purchasing a 128MB Radeon 8500, TV Wonder, DV Wonder, and Remote Wonder. I figured I'd have about the same features with better performance and all right? I don't think so, at least it doesn't look like it. Biggest problem appears to be lack of sharing the same MMC software (MultiMedia Center). Radeon is up to MMC 7.7.0.1, so is the 8500DV, the TV Wonder is still stuck on the beta 7.6, so you can't use a newer version of that with the 8500 and expect to use the TV Wonder. Ugh. I hope they fix this soon.

1. Yeah, that does suck. Definitely not a good thing.

2. The drivers are excellent for the most part. Also, use Windows 2000 insetad of XP because there are a lot less probems. Many of the problems associatedf with various pieces of hardware and Windows XP are related to the fact that Windows XP is not a tried and true solution. Oh yeah, and a radeon 8500 should NOT be faster than a Ti4200. That is just complete and utter BS coming from someone who is obviously ignorant on the subject of what a 3D card SHOULD perform like.

3. Where have you been? That is every mail-in rebate department on the plant (Including NVIDIA). In fact, I never even got my $30 rebate for my GeForce256. I called them an inquired and they basically gave me the "According to us, we sent it, you're screwed"

Learn about what you are ranting about first.

BWAAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!! [ROFL!]

I'm sorry... but after the "NV30 is my hero!" routine, this ATI praise seems totally insincere.
But it sounds cool from you.
You're okay, man.

Ha ha ha ha ha! That was one of your main arguements! ATI SUCKS BECAUSE THEIR SUPPORT SUCKS AND LOOK AT HOW MUCH BETTER I CAN GET FROM WHATEVER COMPANY! now that other company goes under and ATI is still around. It's their size that guarnatees that you'll still have a warranty next week and now that your point has fallen apart "it's beside the point."

Yet another person that argues that since things don't work as they should with other products, it is OK that they don't work with ATI. This logic is really really flawed. Listen to yourself, your arguement could be turned around for when you buy a new car and your engine blows up 20 miles off the lot. You tow the car back to the dealer and the dealer says, "Oh, well there have been defects in our competitors cars, you are being a baby, it happens, just suck it up and pay us to fix your engine for you." This arguement is so flawed. It makes me laugh every time when people say it. Seriously think about what you are saying. You are saying that since other companies don't have great drivers for XP, it is OK for ATI not to have them. The way you should be thinking is all of these companies are utter crap. Can anyone tell me of a product that is still in production made from a company as big as ATI and still has no non-beta driver for windows XP, a year old OS, even older if you consider the RC software of XP, giving developers even more time to make drivers?

Mr Carmack himself said the Radeon 8500 should run Doom III as fast, or if not faster, than a Geforce II TI 4200, but the drivers are not up to par with Nvidias. I actually started this thread shortly after I read his interview from gamespy which contained this information. I guess you are "obviously ignorant on the subject of what a 3D card SHOULD perform like."

Again, I stress, I must be thinking wrong for wanting things to work as advertised. (Rebate should be recieved in 6-8 weeks, on ATI's website they say XP is "Supported" I don't call a beta driver after 1 year of the OS being out support, some may, but I do not, I call it unacceptable, they even say that the driver is "unsupported" on their website. Their non beta driver does not work correctly for me, which was just the 2k driver basically).

Well, if I owned a VisionTek card I would still be happy, as Nvidia provides the driver updates. If your card works, and you don't mess around with it, it will probably most likely work for a long long time. Granted, if I owned a visiontek card I would be pissed if it broke, but at least there are still drivers being produced by Nvidia.

VisionTek was not my main argument. My main arguement was how much ATI's driver department sucks and how I had to wait forever for my rebate. And besides, if I had a Visiontek card I wouldn't be too conserned, you make it sound like the end of the world or something. Nvidia makes the drivers, not Visiontek.

The fans on visiontek cards are notorious for failing. They start with a grinding noise and no ammount of drivers will fix it. I've had to replace the fan twice and it's doing it again. This time there will be no replacement.

Your calls had NOTHING to do with getting you getting your rebate, as I'm sure anyone else on this board that's half way knoweldgeable will tell you, you have already made it clear that ATI has made no effort to go out of its way for you. I'm sorry you can't afford to have the $50 dollars out of your poket for a few months, one would think it smart NOT to buy something they cant afford. If telling you to go bash your TV card means I think the TV card works fine I think you need some help. I could care less about your TV card, but I take it your not catching on. Yeah I'm really going to jump off a cliff for someone because I'm calling you a retarted b*tch?, where's the logic in that?. To sum it up for you:

-Grow a pair, enjoy your perfectly working 8500, sell your TV card to someone who can put it to use, and get something that works for you! Someone in this thread said they had their ati TV card working fine in XP, perhaps asking for some help on how to get the card working decently till ati puts worthwhile drivers out would be a good idea to. DEAL WITH IT!!!!! Their are sh*tty computer parts and drivers in the world, and ATI just happens to have some, no reason to start a frikin hate strike.

Go ATI! Go! Go ATI! Go ATI! Go!!!!!

Ahhh, that would be my fault . . . this thread started 6 weeks ago and I joking suggested RedShirt change the title to it's current name.
Your topic is "Why ATI Sucks". You haven't given US any reason to think so.

Your topic - as trivial as it is - SHOULD be, "Why I think ATI sucks (and I am trying to get attention for myself on a forum because I am bored and just want to rant)."

Since it's resurrection, it has taken on a whole new (flaming) meaning. OK, maybe he should just change it's title back to "Why ATI Sucks".

Well the original title was: "Why ATI Sucks". That was SO much better.
