1) 1gb of ram, more than 768mb from 8800 GTX
2) ALL reviews are from ONE (1) site. That is not 5 or 6.
3) The review to begin with was an R600 vs an 8800 gtx OC
4) That review probably scared ATI into making it better
5) ATI's R600 has to shine or else nobody will want one.

Sadly, there's no DX10 games out yet. I believe DX10s is a totally different beast than DX9 cards. Doesn't todays card have fixed function gpu vs. programmable gpu?

:disgust:
1. You should know RAM has nothing to do with a card's performance nowadays. Case in point, 512mb X1600 Pro vs 7600GT.
2. What the hell does that mean?
3. And it was still spanked, the OCed 8800GTX is a retail product, plus, normal 8800GTXs can reach those speeds quiet easily.
4. They can't redesign an entire architecture in a few weeks, more like a year.
5. That's what everybody said with the NV30...

Ill join the fun

1 - Then why does the GTS 320 get owned by the 640 version and the only difference is the RAM?
2 - Well it means in the same way everybody takes FUDzilla with a bucket of salt, so should you do it with DT
3 - And who says HD2900XT wont have retail OC'd versions too? Plus, it has been confirmed the card has 800 mhz core, while DT tested it at 750
4 - True, stupid point
5 - Actually, as long as it has a decent price (and is promoted well, which is the hardest part concerning AMD/Ati) , people will buy it

My friends 5200 has 512MB of RAM. Does that make if faster than my 256MB 7900GT then?

2) ALL reviews are from ONE (1) site. That is not 5 or 6.
Granted. I will also wait on final reviews.

3) The review to begin with was an R600 vs an 8800 gtx OC
But that was the review from ONE site wasn't it? Why put stock in the GTX's o/c if your going to discredit the entire review?

4) That review probably scared ATI into making it better
I doubt it.

5) ATI's R600 has to shine or else nobody will want one.
This is your reasoning why it has to be good? Or else nobody will want one? Let me ask you, who would you like to have pinch you to show you that you're dreaming?

In reply to the first point, that's because it depends on the resolution. Don't expect 320 MB of RAM to couple with high resolutions and maximum in-game settings. However put the 320 MB version and 640 MB version side by side in the same game, at the same settings, at a resolution like 1024 x 768 and you won't see a single difference, they're both the exact same expect for the Memory, which I will say again, only plays a significant role under high resolutions.

True, but then we get into that question - who is gonna buy one of these cards to play at 1024? Unless you use heavy AA, which will tax the card anyway... But of course, 320 vs 640 is much different than 768 vs 1024... FOR NOW

When people bought the 7800 GTX and the X1800 came out with 512 mb, there was no difference, and now its night and day between those 2... Its all about future proofing anyway

I think thats one of AMD/Ati problems btw... They think too much in the future and not enough in "RIGHT NOW", and then people dont buy their stuff because they dont think ahead of time

R600 will probably end faster than 8800 GTX in DX10, but since there are no DX10 games, no one will buy one... Kinda sad

1. More ram helps at very high resolution with high-res textures (Oblivion QTP3 mod), but it would be meaningless if the video card doesn't perform at those resolution

Just a thought.

ATI released a slow version of the R600 to someone they knew would leak benchmarks.

Nvidia fanbois go ape over how slow it is.

ATI released the info that the NDA would be up on May 1 knowing Nvidia would release the Ultra at that time.

Now ATI unveils the real R600 on the 14th, Nvidia has nothing to counter it and ATI gets all the spotlight and publicity from having a faster card then then the early benchmarks and faster then the by now old news ultra.

More noise in the forums, more interest in the cards = more publicity. All good for ATI.

I'm not saying that is what is happening, but it is a possibility.

What I don't understand about this hypothetical situation is ATI releasing a slow version to leak benchies. Why would they do that?

No one knows what the R600 really is other then people under NDA. Just wait till the 15th and we will see how it does.

To lose more customers to Nvidia, of course. Release is what? the 15th? Thats a half month. 7 1/2 months late

So they leak a slower card to make all the Nvidia "fanbois" go ape, and then release the real version later on... so they can do what? Go "Nyah Nyah, we rock, you suck???" I don't think AMD is run by a 5 year old. Because, all this time, they are losing sales because of the leaked benchmarks.

lol TRUE that Golem....

Though I wish those benches are a little messed up and the xtx performs at least the same as the GTX... which is what 5% faster than DT's results?

Im just getting sick of waiting I had planned my upgrade for april 22nd and even bought some RAm and now im just waiting for a vidcard choice.... but how the hell can i go with the GTS 320 when theres no Vista frikin drivers... or are there?
I mean lately nVidia has been sucking with drivers.... while ATI releases em every single month... UUUAAAGGGHHH i am so tired of this

It depends on the game. In COD2 and COH for example the 320mb version is significantly slower even at 1280x1024 resoluton. But that's for a different topic.

/waits for the official "hd2900xt is crap!" thread...

It is a possibility, but I think I am more likely to have a threesome with Elisha Cuthbert and Scarlett Johansson than what you are saying to be true.

Me too, in the long run, it's best to have 2 or more strong competitors in the market.

...... That name does sort of suck huh? But I didn't really like athlon when I first heard it either. Over time it did grow on me.
