Why is 3dfx talking about Mosaic technology if Rampage does not support it?

I am confused. 3dfx refuses to ever talk about products that are upcoming until they are right next door. Now, they are talking about Mosaic technology, which is supposed to be in Fear, the card AFTER the upcoming Rampage.

Why would they do this? Will Rampage have Mosaic? (No, because they have said it was too far along in it's production cycle to implement).

What do you all think?

Apparently you missed my point. I know what Mosaic is (Gigapixel's tile rendering), but I know that it is not a part of the Rampage, which is their next board. Considering 3dfx never ever talks about products that are not at least coming very soon, and Mosaic is supposed to be debuting with Fear (after Rampage) there is something fishy going on.

I don't know, and we probably won't know until they are about to announce it. Dave has his mouth shut so we won't find out anything.

It's possible that they will this technology to do low end and laptop chips first.

Its just to confuse consumers, they read about Tile Based Rendering and wow I want that, and now 3dfx talks about Mosaic rendering, which is exactly the same thing, just a different name, and now many consumers dont know what is what anymore, anoying when I use so many commas, isnt it

seeing as 3dfx has been at work on the RAMPAGE for so damned long, I would have to suspect that they tried to incorperate as much bandwidth saving technology as they could into the existing RAMPAGE architecture.

whether through hardware, or software (driver tricks) it appears the Rampage will have at least SOME bandwidth saving measures in it.

the project we call FEAR, though will be a full integration of Gigapixel's technology, with everything done in hardware. that much I know for sure.

the reason behind my logic is simple, 3dfx has known about the memory bottleneck for quite a while now, and have managed to avoid it quite well till now. the Rampage theoretically would be a step backwards in that respect, and I have doubted for a while that 3dfx would have finished it without any sort of memory saving techniques.

This is an easy question. 3dfx is taking some hits with it's recent announcements of canceling the V5 6K and the company's decision to get out of board making. Getting a little hype with some of their technology would put faith back into the hearts of consumers towards 3dfx.

Well I see that 3dfx is trying to implement as much as they can, but I wasnt under the impression that it is Mosaic technology. If they call them both Mosaic, and the Rampage gives a say 20% boost to bandwidth, wont that take the thunder out of Fear's sails (as Fear will give a DRAMATIC bandwidth increase.

Actually, the answer is much more simple than people are guessing here. People are asking what's going on with GigaPixel. So we're telling them. Simple as that.
