Iran's Ahmadinejad proud of Holocaust denial
AP

TEHRAN, Iran ? Iran's president said Monday he is proud to stoke international outrage with his latest remarks denying the Holocaust as he heads for the United Nations this week ? showing he is as defiant as ever while his country comes under greater pressure to curtail its nuclear program.

He's spewing such falsehoods to connect with his pridefully ignorant & bigoted base. Thank goodness politicians in the US are above such things.

The BBC commentator says that his doing so results in pollitical benefits. Pretty sad.

At least that's one issue that there's consensus on here in the US.

I look forward to the day that oil is not the blood of the world so that assholes like this go back to being irrelevant goat herders.

(Sarcasm noted re USA)

Yup. He's a politician. He says whatever he thinks his supporters want him to say.

Of course if I felt that some asshole was sitting on my brother's head for 60 years I might also become a inclined to minimize my sympathy for him.

They just did a segment on how taxpayers get to pay for his bodyguards while he is here at the UN. They also mentioned how hotels in the area are refusing him rooms along with other unwelcome countries. Qaddafi is so disliked they say he is going to have to stay in the Libyan run shelter in NY.

Who's 'they'? I'm suspicious of the hotel story. They let Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani stay.

It was on CNN. They said all the major hotels, named off quite a few near the UN were refusing room request from Iran and Libya as well as some South American countries.

New York's Helmsley Hotel said on Friday it canceled a banquet set for next week when it learned Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was on the guest list, saying the man who called the Holocaust a lie was not welcome.

Ahmadinejad was due in New York next week to attend the UN General Assembly, and his public appearances outside the meeting have generated controversy in recent years.

"As soon as Helmsley corporate management learned of the possibility of either the Iranian mission or President Ahmadinejad holding a function at the New York Helmsley Hotel, they immediately ordered the cancellation of that function," hotel spokesman Howard Rubenstein said in a statement.

"Neither the Iranian mission nor President Ahmadinejad is welcome at any Helmsley facility," the statement said without saying why.

A group called United Against Nuclear Iran told the hotel that Ahmadinejad was on the guest list, he said.

The New York Post reported the banquet was booked months ago by an Iranian student group.

Ahmadinejad on Friday called the Holocaust "a lie based on an unprovable and mythical claim" in comments to worshipers at Tehran University

And to think that the iranians voted for him, overwhelmingly. Iran is the enemy of the free world.

At least he isn't in Germany/Austria, where Holocaust denial costs you 6 months in jail. So much for the West's vaunted freedom of speech?

Right, and it's funny how he doesn't realize how his statement applies to how most of the world viewed our electing Bush.

Yes, I know some Iranians and you're the clueless one. Americans aren't even "similar" to other Americans in different parts of the country. I suggest you travel a little bit more with your ears open and your mouth closed. Just because the world is getting smaller doesn't make its inhabitants any more alike.

What about American citizens and politicians who think Palestinians are and always have been treated justly by the innocent doves in Israel?

Do not ask me to defend Achmadinejad, a total nut and God's gift for Israeli propaganda. Personally I blame his initial election to Dick Cheney when he kicked Iranian moderates in the teeth in 2002.

But make no mistake, Achmadinejad does not have much political power in Iran, and if the dumb ass current Iranian Ayatollah is dumb enough to support him and his current fraud reelection, I can take a certain amount of comfort that Achmadinejad and the Iranian Mullahs have opted to go the way of the Shah. It will take some time, but their days are numbered.

He's not dumb, nor is he a moron. He's smart.

His goal in doing this is to piss off the Jews / Israel, and this is an excellent way to go about doing it.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, why beat around the bush?

Iran's constution says so:

Article 57 [Separation of Powers]
The powers of government in the Islamic Republic are vested in the legislature, the judiciary, and the executive powers, functioning under the supervision of the absolute religious Leader and the Leadership of the Ummah, in accordance with the forthcoming articles of this Constitution. These powers are independent of each other.

Put simply; Ali Khamenei is Supreme Leader, and those the Guardian Counsel are the big guns, while as president Ahmadinejad is way down the totem poll.
