Why is Bush so Popular??

Not too long ago many still thought that GW had ascended to the Presidency under less than honourable circumstances. He seem bumbling and weak. After Sept 11th though, things changed. Many Presidents enjoy a huge boost during "war"-time, but this usually fades quite quickly. It is several months since anything real happended in the War on Terrorism and GW still enjoys an 85% approval (which is a staggering figure). Could this approval rating be related to the defeat of the Taliban (no great accomplishment by anyone's standards), the disorganization that has been caused to Al-Queda (which appears to be huge if you believe the American media), or is it deeper than that?

My feeling is that the approval rating started with the war campaign, but now it has focused on something else. After cerebral leaders like Clinton, the US is ready for someone who is a bit more down to earth. Basically, he seems to be "of the people" and as a result he provides plain speak on many issues and that seems to resonate with most Americans (while making the Elite grimace).

So what are your thoughts on why GW is still enjoying huge approval ratings?

He's not messing up....deep down in everyone's mind, they're still afraid of more to come and they'd rather pretend they like who's at the helm, regardless of who it is.

Btw, I voted for him and liked him from the get-go

The reason that he is enjoying such high approval ratings is the rally around the flag effect. Americans united for a time of war, and studies have shown that during times of war the population will approve almost whatever the president is doing. America embraces its presidents regardless of who they are. I believe that George W. is doing just fine in office, but doubt that he will win re-election... BTW I voted for Nadar.

Clinton was perhaps one of the smartest presidents that we have had in a very long time. The man was a Rhode Scholar as well. Might I ask why you are laughing so hard?

If you consider deception a mark of someone highly intelligent, then I guess you are right!

Why don't you just post a link to your college transcripts so we can compare them against Clinton's?

Deception in politics? No way. If you believe that politicians don't lie to us at all, then I have some waterfront property to sell you. Most, if not all politicians lie to the public at one time or another. Should he have lied, no. Would you have lied in the same instance? YES. The very most personal details of our politicians lives are none of our business, and these questions should not have even surfaced. It was a smear campaign by the opposing party, our current VP was involved in the disgraceful impeachment if memory serves me right. Let's think back to JFK... Marilyn Monroe... Did the public get involved there? No way.

Clinton was one of our smarter President's. You can debate whether he was a good president all you want, but his intelligence is inarguable.

Bush is popular because hes been doing well in office. Despite his apperance and speech skills, he seems to be in control of matters going on. I didn't vote for him, but he's done a good job I say so far. Much better than anticipated.

Should we compare rap sheets, too? Oh gee, I don't have one. I guess I have an inferior intellect.

Because he is a good war leader, much better than Gore would have been.

On domestic issues he's a (stereo)typical Republican: destroy the environment, big oil instead of conservation, tax breaks for corporate buddies and rich party donors, blind eye to Enron, etc. etc.

Reagan was popular too, but while people were busy thinking "what a nice guy" he was doing exactly what GW plans to do: huge military buildup of some things we need and many that we don't, tax cuts we can't afford, and massive trillion-dollar additions to the national debt. Trickle-down economics take 2.

What rap sheet? In case you forgot, he wasn't convicted.
I have never liked Clinton, but I hate idiots who lie and obscure the truth in order to spread their filth. If you can't tell the truth, don't post. The fact is that Clinton was an amazing scholar. Have you seen his high school transcripts? Valedictorian, student body president, captain of the debate team, and on and on and on. And then college... amazing. No one gets grades like he did. That is fact.
Let me give you advice. If you can't disprove something except by lying, slanderizing, or bashing, then concede the point. When you lie about or attack an obvious and known truth, your entire credibility goes down the crapper.

Back on topic, GW seems to be popular because he has become decisive. Not all Americans appreciate exactly what he is doing, but they know that, in this time of crisis, someone is in charge and something is being done. People like that. And it looks like the speech classes have really paid off.

9-11

But I will admit that after the attacks, he has really gained my respect as a leader. He just seemed rather "shaky" and "out of touch" to me before hand, but now I actually have more respect for him as a leader.

Watch, I can do this too. I can post something entirely irrelevant, then an insult. Watch!

Einstein flunked math in the 8th grade, after which he always got amazing grades.

LOL. Dumbass.

My point is that if you are going to insult someone's acheivements, even (or should that be especially) someone you don't like, then you ought to have some acheivements of your own beforehand. Otherwise, you're just a hypocrite.
BTW, Dave, nice blow-by on my point in my last post. Can't argue so we just cruise right around that, eh?

You called me an idiot for spreading lies. As far as I know Clinton was disbarred for commiting perjury. I never said he didn't have good grades in school.
