Not too long ago many still thought that GW had ascended to the Presidency under less than honourable circumstances. He seem bumbling and weak. After Sept 11th though, things changed. Many Presidents enjoy a huge boost during "war"-time, but this usually fades quite quickly. It is several months since anything real happended in the War on Terrorism and GW still enjoys an 85% approval (which is a staggering figure). Could this approval rating be related to the defeat of the Taliban (no great accomplishment by anyone's standards), the disorganization that has been caused to Al-Queda (which appears to be huge if you believe the American media), or is it deeper than that?
My feeling is that the approval rating started with the war campaign, but now it has focused on something else. After cerebral leaders like Clinton, the US is ready for someone who is a bit more down to earth. Basically, he seems to be "of the people" and as a result he provides plain speak on many issues and that seems to resonate with most Americans (while making the Elite grimace).
So what are your thoughts on why GW is still enjoying huge approval ratings?
