Why is gmail still in 'Beta'?

I've used it for 3 years and it works perfectly as long as their servers are responding. So why is it still in beta? There seems to be a lot of software that is just in a perpetual beta stage, I don't get it.

I oughta just always label anything I code as "beta" and use that excuse if anything ever goes wrong

They are adding features and upgrades at a fairly decent pace, and along with this comes testing to make sure everything works, keeping it in an almost perpetual beta stage.

Honestly? Because a company like that is ran by developers who begin work, but just can't find it in themselves to declare an actual end date. Reason usually is so you can always claim success or you can always 'tinker'. A project like that (gmail) could use some good project management to define actual requirements / etc.

My gmail still has bugs, I have to open attachements in a new tab while using firefox, otherwise I will have to completely reload gmail as it is just a white screen.

EDIT, I just found a solution for that, I was too lazy to look before.

If you use TabMixPlus, follow the directions below: open TMP options > Links > Prevent blank tabs when downloading files > EDIT and remove from the list the line /disp=attd&view=att/

I just hate how it handles downloading attachments and HATE HATE HATE how I can't organize visually to nice subfolders. That star system or something is retarded.

I just want to visually organize it, and don't like the labeling system

Weird I was wondering the same thing this morning. Coming out of beta usually means perfect, flawless product ... if they feel certain things aren't, or plan on adding ... then why come out of beta... these people aren't Microsoft.
This is what I believe is Microsoft's best product.
