They accent the flavors caused by esters, which are produced when alcohol and acid mix. Fruity flavors are usually caused by this, if they were not introduced on purpose. Yeast strains play a big part in the flavor (ever notice how certain beers of a region taste similar?), as does fementation temperature.

Blue Moon is a domestic version of White beer which is beer flavoured with coriander, bitter orange, and hops so it tastes good with a slice of orange added.

Corona does not taste good without a lime. Blue moon was a great beer until I had too much of it one night, can't really drink it since then.

"if you don't know what it is, don't look"

judging by your spelling, you don't really know either  (hefeweizen)

the originators of the weisse beers don't drink them with lemons or oranges. most american versions of hefes/whites/weisses/etc brew with regular ale yeast which completely misses the point of a true wheat beer - the estery flavors produced by specific yeast strains. so i guess the answer to your question is that americans add fruit to american wheat beers because they lack the flavor of the original belgian/german versions.

As a woman, how dare you try to recite man law? It's man law, is it that hard to understand?

For some reason Blue Moon years ago was much better...now if the orange slice is not there you don't get the full flavor of the beer. Didn't need it before.

I think some people just don't like the taste of wheat beers and need it fruited up. *shrug* I love wheats.

IDK, maybe to cut the yeast taste?

I prefer kristalweizen (sp?) myself.

Yeah, OP your spelling is pretty awful. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought Blue Moon is a bit different than the German beers, it's supposed to be more along the lines of a Hoegaarden - which is a pretty light and fruity Belgian beer. Straight off a tap Hoegaarden has an amazingly delicious fruity taste and I always assumed Blue Moon imitated that by adding bits of Orange peel and encourging the drinker to add real fruit.

Also, for the love of god don't ever pronounce hefeweizen as "hefervizen", try

"hef" (like chef without the c)
"eh" (like saying "eh, I dunno")
"vite"
"zen"

at least that would be much closer.

Topic Summary: If u dont know what it is, dont look

Evidently, neither do you!

To answer you question, it's some dumb thing that some servers and drinkers do in the US.

Try Magic Hat's Circus Boy for a good 'weizen. You can adjust the cloudyness of pour by swirling that last few ounces around in the bottle and pouring into your glass. This picks up the dead yeasts in the bottom of the bottle.

Miller Lite, you have no reason to be telling anybody anything about beer.

A slice of lemon on a good hefeweizen is a great summer drink. It's not my favourite, but it's still really good.

I've never had a Heffeweissen served with a lemon in Germany. I guess they are real men over there.

My sentiments exactly. I cannot stand those ads or the ads from Budweiser. If their product is so wonderful, why do they spend the bulk of their ad time setting up a stupid joke. Talk about your beer. The companies have become jokes.
Their 'beers' have more in common with Sake as they're made with an abundance of rice as the sugar and starch for the yeasts to feed on.

Many beers use rice solids, both the big names and microbrews. Also, there is nothing wrong with light beer. Beer snobs love to push heavy beers all the time, but I think that a true lover of beer can appreciate all different kinds because they all satisfy a desire or an occassion.
