why is it rare for wireless mouse to use bluetooth?

there seems to be a preference for hardware manufacturers to not use bluetooth. why?

i thought is was to avoid license fees, but then came across this link:

has logitech/microsoft/etc ever stated why they tend to avoid bluetooth?

Dell offers Bluetooth mice as an option with every PC, I think. I don't know who makes those.

I heard there was some lag issue or excessive power use with the early ones they did make. Maybe it's just easier to sell it with a propietary USB receiver since a lot of people will probably buy a Bluetooth mouse without knowing they need a separate receiver.

Bluetooth is a very mature RF system - been used in Europe for almost 5 years now. It has roughly three times the range of standard wireless mice, and that can cause problems where there are several users on different machines in the same room. It does require a matching receiver in the PC. And, the end result is not any better than a standard wireless mouse for most users. So, . . . small market equals small production and selection. And, there could be some NIH pressures as well.

does it?
i use my logitech bt mouse/kb in my ps3 all the time- without plugging the usb receiver in the ps3.

If you have a PC with built-in Bluetooth reception, then a Bluetooth mouse is nice. No need to plug anything into a USB port. But most PCs with built-in Bluetooth are notebook computers. PS3s have built-in Bluetooth.
