People who say skin color doesn't matter are missing the point. Of course it shouldn't matter, but the fact is, Americans aren't going to stop teaching their kids about Jesus using drawings of a white guy with a brown goatee. Even though there is no way to tell for sure what skin color he was, I think given the geographical and historical information, it's safe to assume that there is a good chance he was dark-skinned. Now, with this information, shouldn't people be more cautious about leaving impressions on kids' minds that Jesus was an Anglo-Saxon? A lot of this WWJD B.S. is based on the assumption that Jesus would have good ol' middle-class values. According to the Bible, Jesus resisted the authority at the time, associated with homeless people and prostitutes, and told everyone he was the son of God. The implications are enormous - if American kids are taught to learn early on that Jesus looked different and lived different then themselves, it could potentially help ease a lot of misunderstanding that fuels discrimination in this country.
