Why don't you go to the dealer and check out the cars? You can't really talk about trunk space until you see one in person.

MS3 is your best bet for something in that price range if you insist on brand new, MT, and turbo.

Green is in, it's going to be hard to find the features you want in a new car. You'd have to go back to the 90s to early 2000s for something you'll *REALLY* love. MR2 Turbo, 300ZX, etc. They stopped making cool cars in that price range the last couple years. Most things sporty with a turbo and manual with some kick are going to be things like 135i, etc that are pricey, or weak green econo cruisers that have a turbo to make up for the 1.0L engine that gets 1000 mpg. I can't think of anything CURRENT that really meets your criteria besides the MS3.

Oh wait, Cobalt SS is another one, those are pretty wicked and are turbo and easy to mod. Should come with a manual right?

SRT-4? *Thinking hard...*

Isn't there supposed to be a turbo Focus headed this way? We need more hot turbo hatches for $20k. The market is pretty divided right now, you either have econo boxes and Camrys and eco trendy green cars at $20k, or you have Mustangs GTs and 370Z at $30K+

On the other hand, the V6 Mustang at 305 HP is probably a blast and they start at what $22k? It's not turbo but then it already has as much power as you'll get out of a lightly modded turbo 4 cyl. Only problem with Mustangs for you is while you have a large amount of trunk *space* the rear deck and opening are very *short*, that might be a problem for loading large items.

This could be a VERY good car. The performance will likely spank the Genesis Coupe or a Civic Si for the same price plus will likely be much more fuel efficient than the MS3 (which otherwise is very good).

Too much money for his price range probably. Pontiac G8s GTs are even better. V8 + Manual + 4 doors for under $30 (not anymore).

Not manual...G8 GT was only automatic. To get a manual you had to get the $40K G8 GXP. Loved that car.

Agreed the BMW was out of the OP's range...but I wasn't responding to the OP...I was responding to ShawnD1.

Hmmm used GXP might be a good option to consider!

Not sure about Holden reliability.

GM push rod engines are as reliable as forks and revolvers. Well after you replace the intake manifold gasket with a steel one but every car has crappy plastic gasket problems these days.

And they aren't $23k and are loaded with things people might NOT want.

Agreed. As I said to MJinz...I was really responding to ShawnD1, not the OP. I really wish BMW made a "just the basics" model. I guess you just have to stick with used to get that for the time being.

So a tossup? I know I bend forks all the time and revolvers don't jam supposedly.

You bend them because youre doing it wrong...and despite that it still continues to function perfectly and loyally serve you for years without complaint... eg GM push rod engine.

Heheh, I bend forks at the neck, not at the teeth. Usually cuz the food is too heavy.

Engine isn't the only concern these days, if electronics or other stuff never works properly, a car can be intolerable.

Mustang V6. Why? Because I like it. Also because it's highly rated and has the one of the lowest costs of ownership for a sport/pony car right now.

I think a sporty hatchback would probably work best for you though, if you travel. MazdaSpeed 3 might be a good fit. Maybe a used Impreza WRX 5-door.

Can't speak for the Cruze. The Cobalt and G5 had huge trunks in them. But those things were a turd with wheels. The Cruze is one of the cars I've been itching to drive.

Are you on some weird all-plutonium diet? I must say, I've never experienced a food caused fork failure in over 40 years of feeding myself with one, sometimes multiple times a day.

Saw one on the road near the airport the other day. It was black and really looked pretty nice. Would love to see a hot hatch version sold here.

Damn, you should take some of that wheel money you got lying around and buy some real forks.

G8's are reliable vehicles. Relatively simple and there's just not much to go wrong. Electronics aren't likely to be a problem.

I sincerely doubt the RX-8 would be considered the "perfect car". Unique maybe, but not perfect.
I agreed, that's why I didn't put it in my list. They have terrible fuel efficiency and not much of a storage trunk.

A couple new additions that have hit my radar are the new Buick and the CTS Sport, my altima 4cyl with a manual is lots of fun.

Ya that really pissed me off, and they only made 5000 of them (if you see one buy it, it will be a collector's car).

I'm betting he uses cheap lead forks made in china, would explain most of his posts.

Both the BMW 3 series and 5 series provide exactly this (power, manual, 4 doors).

Indeed. You can get anything you want if you have enough money. I was mostly upset because regular cheap cars like the Camry and Accord do not offer such options. A quick google search says the top 5 cars in the US for June were:
Toyota Camry
Honda Civic
Honda Accord
Toyota Corolla
Chevy Malibu

For the above options, the Camry does not come with a manual. The Civic only has balls if you get the Si model which burns as much gas as a V6 but has less power and requires premium fuel and has super expensive insurance because a lot of douches drive them. The Accord only has the V6/manual if you get the couple. The Corolla only has balls if you get the XRS model, which burns more gas than a Camry even though it has less power, and fewer gears, and the insurance is more, and it's smaller. Chevy I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot poll since my parents owned GM vehicles and they would chew through alternators and starters as often as most cars go through oil.

I'm just picky. Things like the Speed 3 and Civic Si do everything I want, but certain aspects of the price seem unreasonable. For example, insurance on a Civic Si is waaaay more than that on a Civic EX. Also, why does the Si burn as much gas as a 270HP V6 in the Accord even though it has 70HP less? Why does it take premium gas? That means the Si actually costs more to drive even though it has less power and is slower. How did Honda fuck this up so bad. I just don't understand.
