Why is it that black people can do public stuff, and say its a black get together, or black something and only blacks will be there... (you guys no wat i mean) but right when some other race does this, its called racisim. I dont get it.. For example, today i was walking down the hallway off my schoool and saw a scholarship posting.. It said you HAD to be a AFRICAN AMERICAN..... hey.. thats totallly fine with me but if that said only for white people... someoone would start a big fuss over it! I think thats pretty darrn gaaay...

That's because the percentages of getting a scholarship are so in favor of a white person getting it, strictly based on the size of the white population. Basically, there are so many white applicants compared to black that it would be extremely hard for a black person to get a scholarship. That's not even assuming the other races that would be competing.

I remember last year at college a guy I know know said "There's an arabic student club, a black student club, an asian sutent club, why isn't there a white student club?"
My answer was that the school is almost the white student's club, since it's almost 75% white.

The fact is, that there's a lot of white people in the country, and not so many minorites (hence the name). The world would be much better if race didn't matter, but to a lot of people, it does. Minorities are still discriminated against, and it's understandable that they want to be around people in a similar situation. African Americans were slaves for 200 years here, and I could see that effecting their culture. So they want to have events for blacks only. It's a way of feeling pride; they don't need to feel worse off anymore.

Statistically, less black people go to college than whites. Also, black people are poorer, on average. So, there's black scholarships.

Personally, I could care less about race, I only care about indivudual character.

It's based on a tradition that Blacks did'nt get scholarships from the mainstream and they were relegated to going to Black only colleges like Spellman and Morehouse. Today this has changed somewhat but the movement still exists since it still has inertia.

EIDT:BTW- A better question to ask whould have been..When and why were all these black scholarships created.

I don't see any other race who "grandstands" the way they do, at every opportunity, almost like they own the country, but yet they don't, nobody does .

In this country, we all have a right to the same things. That's the america I know. If some want to continue to build the same borders over and over again, that is a huge mistake of some.

At my daughter's graduation ceremony, we (my family) felt like minorities. There were only a handfull of whites, among all the blacks, hispanics, asians, russians, etc. The most undisciplined (making noise, etc), were the black families that were there. It seemed they were all out to prove something. Even the kids that graduated, were dancing all over the field, exposing various parts of their bodies, shaking their asses, etc, while the rest behaved quite appropriately.

Unfortunately most blacks are still discrimated against as evidenced by recent victories in "racial profiling" on americas highways and the very punitive Denny's lawsuit for refusing to serve a series of Black secret service agents.. Sure it's gotten better but we still have a very long way to go in race relations and income/job equality. And thier are false white victims just as often.

yesterday I was walking to the post office, and this black couple were walking towards me. I couldn't believe it when they would not give me any space to pass on the sidewalk. I was so infuriated that I was about to beat them down, if not for the guy being a full foot taller than me and outweighing me by 100 lbs :Q

in a neighborhood where I am quickly becoming a minority, I wasn't even acknowledged as being on the sidewalk. now I didn't do anything to these people, yet my skin color was enough to evoke a response that was quite confrontational imo. I did as per my usual when I pass people, I try to make eye contact and offer a smile but no eye contact was forthcoming as they were too busy yapping to one another.

this is a very bad attitude and seems to me to be harboring of a lot of resentment. I'm trying not to be racist but things like this really tick me off.

Hmm maybe a race that was sytematically shackled, beaten, and sold for three hundred years has a right to be really pissed off? Especially when after the civil rights movement where hundreds died to fight for thier rights as US citizens THEN still are getting told they will not be served a breakfast at Denny's after white america tells them how mice and equal everything is? This would'nt have any bearing on your being a little leary of white america right?

BTW- My parents came here in 68' from Sweden and they were never told they could'nt eat at Denny's or pulled over for looking to dark.

And how do you know it was your skin colour that made them do this? There are enough assholes who do stuff like that all the time. White, black, asian, you name it. Also people who think they are above the rest of the world and look away in disgust if a 'lower' human as much as looks at them, let alone offers a smile.

I did not know there was a collective and accumulative sense that whitie owed them something. My ancestors are Irish and were oppressed for longer that 300 years by the British. Does that mean all people from England OWE me? No black in this country was ever a slave. I was never a slave owner.
