Why is it when I drink I can't sleep for more than 6 hours?

Every time I get drunk I end up waking up 5-6 hours after I go to sleep/pass out. I've tried to sleep longer but I just lay there wide awake. Doesn't seem to be related to the amount of time it takes me to sober up either.

Guess everyone reacts to a drug somewhat differently, maybe your metabolism is naturally rapid, removing the alcohol faster than most..

same here... maybe for the time we sleep, its a DEEEEP sleep and so we get enough rest. Another reason might be hydration... we feel uneasy coz of dehydration and so we wake up.

I think its related to the dehydration.
I havent drank in a long time and havent gotten hammered in ten years or more, but thats how I recall it too. Cant sleep forever. Do end up having a long ass hangover.

Well - at least I am not the only one. I wouldn't have thought dehydration because I pretty much never get hangovers but maybe it is....

It is your subconscious kicking you in the face that wakes you up. It is trying to convey an important message to you about the life you are leading and the wages of sin. For what you spent getting drunk, you could have hired a hooker, gotten laid, and then slept very well. Drinking is bad, you should hire hookers instead.

Alcohol may be a depressant, but it is a terrible sleep aide. It prevents certain stages of the sleep cycle and causes you to wake up at night, both from its dehydrating effects and from its terrible sleep-aide effects.

What's really important though is who/what is laying next to you when you wake up from your drunkin' binge.

Same thing happens to me. Get drunk on a Friday or Saturday night, go to bed anywhere between 2 and 4 AM, and wake up ready to go around 8:30 or 9. I'm too used to waking up in the morning for work, so I think my body is just used to it.

I find that alcohol actually helps me fall asleep. Ever since I was a kid, I've had a real hard time falling asleep. I can't just lay down and be snoozing within 10 minutes. It seriously takes me hours sometimes. And when I do fall asleep, I sometimes wake up every half hour throughout the night. Except when I drink though. Once I've got 10-12 beers in me, I can, and sometimes do fall asleep anywhere.

one beer helps me fall asleep.

more than that then i stay up and it messes with my sleep.

my sleep isnt limited to six hours, though i am careful to stay hydrated by rehydrating after drinking before i sleep.

happens every time to me too. The worst part is that I want to sleep more, but I can't.
