John the Ripper is aka Opener.

Um, no. Opener is a trojan for OS X which just happens to include John the Ripper. If we followed your logic that would mean that VNC is also a trojan called Opener.

And VNC happens to install John the Ripper? And VNC does every single thing that Opener does?
No, and that's the point. Opener installs JtR, not the other way around like how you were describing it. Opener is not JtR.

I don't recall ever saying that John the Ripper installs Opener. Saying "John the Ripper (aka Opener) is totally different than saying that John the ripper installs Opener.

But from what I was told, and read in the Apple Discussions board, John the Ripper and Opener were the same. But I guess they are wrong.

Of course not and and John doesn't do everything Opener does either. How about you go back and read the page again, slower this time.

Like I said, I was only going by what I was told, and read, from the Apple Discussions.

And yet you still manged to post information that contradicts what you were trying to say?

Links that were taken out of the threads from the Apple Discussions. I only skimmed through them.

I thought I was helping somehow, but I guess not. Sorry.

Aside from what's been pointed out so far, the one makes me think you're a bit confused about what the POST actually is.

POST(Power On Self Test) happens before any OS is loaded, hence I have a hard time seeing how any bat file could "get past post", it's not like they have anything to run under during POST.

Unix still has the edge

Also apparently the survey was mailed along with a electronic newsletter named 'W2kNews' which is provided by SunBelt software.

Also from previous behaviors from 'Yankee Group" I am suprised that anybody takes this stuff seriously. Mostly I figure they are trying to drum up free advertisment for them to sell the results of the survey.

It's about the same level of trustworthiness as if I mailed out survey's to people that subscribe to 'Redhat Magazine'.
