Given that there are 2 80mm fans blowing air into the case towards the cpu, the large hsf fan (perpendicular to mobo, assisting airflow in direction towards back of case) and the 120mm fan directly behind the cpu/hsf sucking out hot air, I think this is entirely possible. And my cpu is actually INSIDE the case. What are you smoking? Its possible my cpu could be 22 and the ambient 25, due to the airflow. Whatever.

That's definitely possible. I think people got hung up on was something else you said that is impossible:

Some objects literally are colder in the same ambient temp. It's entirely possible given the hsf material and airflow to have the idle temp 1 deg less than ambient.. (wind chill factor? i'm sure it applies on some level as well.. pls dont flame me for saying that, just grasp the idea)

I don't know why some people have to be so rude when pointing out misunderstandings though.

thx for the support and clarification Lumbus.. and yeah, you're right about that 2nd part.. I was thinking more of 'feel' (like 'cold steel' vs wood or something) than of logic.. (thermal conductivity and heat transfer creating that cold feel...) I should have just left that part out altogether =)

after a good cleaning and proper as5 (super thin as hsf and cpu are both lapped near flawless..) the diff between ambient and idle, and ambient and full load are much better.. 2C above ambient at idle, and 14 above at full load, so my delta is exactly back to where is was before. Bottom line? Taking off the hsf, blowing the dust out (there was almost none..) and cleaning/reapplying as5 can help drop your temps back down, if they've raised for no apparent reason. Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm happily chugging along overclocked and super cool =)
