why is nitrous considered 'fake' speed?

I was just reading a story about a corolla who smoked a 99-00 civic si with a 55 shot. People later came out saying 'try that again without the nitrous'.

I don't get it, why don't people say, try that again with 'half your cylinders' or 'no turbo.' Either the car can move or it can't.

If you pit a muscle car against some little rice-loving car and the muscle is non-nitrous and the ricer IS then yes, that's cheating.

It's like steroids, a chem. enhancer to take the car places that either the builder can't reach or the car can't reach for whatever reason.

And when you see these retards driving integra's with a 60 shot of nitrous you must ask yourself "why, wo the hell are you trying to beat? An Accord?".

If you wanna pit Nitrous Vs. Nitrous that's fine.
But be warned that some of those same muscle cars that you need Nitrous to compete with....become ferocious competitors with the same enhancements.

Try check out the Nitrous funny-cars sometime at your local strip. I have NEVER seen any import EVER come close to that.

I posted YES smartass. And I'll tell you why. The reason Nitrous is considered "fake Speed" is because its a speed your engine as is, cannot normally do. Someone who builds hotrods and spends alot to have a nice engine and tranny that can do an extraordinary speed and hold it, can be raced by a ricer who beefs up his honda or toyota with a simple "sneaky pete" nitrous kit and the ricer will win. Not all the time mind you, but every so often it happens. Take those same two cars and place them on a track and run them 5 to 10 times and Ricers Car will blow a head gasket, tranny seal or throw a rod trying to keep with the streetrod. Thats why its called "Fake Speed."

Your argument made no sense. First of all if you take a rice boy and race him against some other car and he wins it is NOT cheating. If you do the same with a domestic versus a ricer boy it is still not cheating. The idea behind nitrous is no different than a supercharger or a turbo. Colder denser air+ more fuel= more power. I always run what I brung. If you don't like my nitrous then go get a car that can compete.

yep, he asked why its considered fake speed. that and the other comments mentioned, you really dont have to tune nitrous, its not something thats constantly on, its a 'switch', etc.

i personally could careless my friend has a 13 second GTI and runs like 12 with NOS, but he never keeps it in there after he runs it, its really a 'worthless' mod to keep in a car. ruins your engine, etc.

turbos and blowers of any kind require tuning and often even come stock, part of the engine, etc.

it's not cheating. There's nothing wrong with it, especially if the motor is built around it, same as building a motor around forced induction. I'd rather win by having a mechanically superior engine, but it's great for making sleepers, especially if you hide the lines, solenoids etc.
